One of my units died

One of my units I've been using now for a while just upped and died. No mod's other than I've added a heat sink and drilled extra holes in the case for cooling.

What happens is when I slide the switch to "on" (to the right as you look at it), in the small status window, the left icon (for power) comes on along with the battery icon - for only about 1-2 seconds, then everthing goes off. No "Fujitsu" splash screen, no post messages, nothing.

I've tried both battery and with A/C. With and without a disk. Nothing. It doesn't stay up long enough to get into the BIOS either. Any of you electronic wizards out there know where to start looking?

I'm no expert but it sounds like a power supply problem. I would start by checking the voltage to the switch with a volt meter. I would also maybe try to clear the comos and see if that helps. From my reading on the 1200 I got a feeling that the power switch has been a common item to go bad on these uints. Hope this helps and good luck !

I would be willing to repair your Stylistic 1200 for a very reasonable fee. Per the symptoms, it appears your motherboard needs replaced. Contact me at kenbush@mrtc.com if you are interested. Thanks.

Bump..

I've got a Point 1600 exhibiting this same symptom. Whenever I flex the case a certain way the tablet goes completely dead.

Pushing the power button afterwards, I only get a weak power and hard-drive light for a few seconds and then the unit goes dead again. A couple of gentle "love taps" and it starts again properly.

Any ideas before I open the case up?

TIA

Hmm, this sounds like something is shorting out inside. I -might- pop the laptop open and look around on the case. Look for any wear marks (scratches, etc). If the inside of the case is metal, this is v. likely. If not, pop some slow drying paint onto parts that look like they might touch (only on one, mind). Close it up, and wiggle the tablet liek you do to kill it. Pop it open and check if the paint transferred to anything else. Wipe the paint off and fix what's shorting. When I get mine in a week I'll pop it open and see if I can find something.
