Portrait Mode Works..kinda
pen needs tweeking

I've loaded the Pivot software found at:
http://www.portrait.com and had success with rotating the screen. Unfortunately the pen still thinks it's in landscape mode. I had a similar problem with the CF01, but that was fixed with a registry entry. The registry entries for the fujitsu are a little bit different:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VPEND]

Has anybody else looked at this yet? I'm assuming it's in the "display orientation" section, but I'd like to know if anybody else has done this before I go in and start guessing and putting number after number after number into regedit...

Thanks,
jim

Any workarounds to the pen orientation problem ?

Yes, there should be, but I haven't had a chance to set it up. When I initially setup the 1200 not all of the pen software loaded up correctly. I went back and redid it and it worked out. Now it's pretty much the same idea as the CF01 with the registry. I'll set it up tonight and post the details on it.

FOr Pen Services, you gotta use the Win98 drivers from Reldrig's site. The stock Fujitsu Win95 drivers don't work very well under Win98.
Looking forward to detals on the portrait hack !

Nope, as I've been struggling with getting my 802.11b up and running completely. I'm soooo close, but not quite there. I'm able to ping wired/wireless subnets, but my wired side can't hit the net. This is next on the list once I get the routing thing fixed.

Jim - or anyone else: Any luck on getting the pen to work with the Pivot Portrait software?

I have found out that Fujitsu made a portrait mode driver that rotates both the screen *AND* the digitizer. Now, how to get my hands on that fricken thing... The answer I have recieved is ship your unit back to fujitsu and pay a fee... Not going to do that.

So, it exists, but I still don't have my hands on it. I still have some more digging to do. I haven't given up yet.

Jim,

What was the fee? Maybe we can take up a collection if you agree to share...

I didn't get to the part on how much it would cost, as I have one more option I'm pursuing. Within a couple of weeks I'll find out if that works. This really shouldn't be that hard...I'm amazed that I've had enough patience to last this long in trying to find this pivot stuff.

I'm on vacation from work until Monday - I'll get a price qoute from Fujitsu then. I think it might be steep.

Are there ways to make to rotate the console (dos or boot into *BSD or linux) also? or only possible once in graphic mode (e.g. via XFree86-4 rotate)? I would like to have the text-console of my stylistic-1000 in portrait mode too, any ideas?

Based on what I've seen with these portrait drivers - they are pretty much windoze specific, so if you wanted a dos/linux solution on the command line, it would probably have to be a hardware hack. Total guess, though.

FWIW...I bought a full version of the Pivot software recently for $20 (for an I-Opener). Thought I could find a pirate serial # somewhere...no success. When you buy a legitimate version, you actually download a different version of Pivot. So I guess there is no serial # for the trial version. Have you tried an E-Mail to Pivot tech support? They might know something....

ckbone,
I guess Jim is talking about getting the portrait driver from Fujitsu. Fujitsu posts the portrait driver for 2300 on the web but not 1200. I guess they made one for 1200, just never release it to the public. We have tried Pivot driver, it did rotate the screen but cursor dies. No one find the solution yet (at least no one posts it), so if we can get the driver from Fujitsu then it should work fine.

I take it the Pivot driver for the 2300 doesn't work with the 1200?

most of the drivers from other stylistic models i've tried to install complain the driver is for another model and didn't install. i didn't think about modifying the win9x registry so that every "1200" associated with stylistic will be "2300" :) not sure if it will let the drivers install but it's something i'm gonna try later. i doubt it but doesn't hurt to try :)

About a year ago, someone with an I-Opener contacted Portrait Displays asking about driver support for the I-Opener Trident video chip.....the pres. of the company promised a new version that would work. Sure enough with the release of Pivot 5.0, the I-Opener now works in the pivot mode. Apparently the company is receptive to suggestions, and may be willing to help out, maybe he already could provide a patch for your pointer problem.

FWIW...If you're using the pivot software, be sure to uninstall it before changing video drivers....reinstall it afterwards. Bad things happen if you don't do it this way. I've got two I-Openers working full-time in the portrait mode....it works great for small screens.....

I've got the full version of the Portrait software. It rotates the 1200 screen just fine, but the digitizer is still stuck in landscape mode.

I've loaded up the 2300's rotatable driver, but it doesn't rotate diddly on my screen. I haven't had time digging through the registry to see if there is something to mess with that might make it work.

My only hope is to try to get my hands on a disk image that has the Fujit rotate software built *specificaly* for the 1200 (and win95) - then rip out the driver parts (which will be a joy).

Fujitisu has been a bit of a pain in the ass with these drivers...

Fujitsu has been a pain in the ass over every issue I've contacted them about, so I wouldn't expect this to be any different.

i tried what i mentioned in my previous post above. but no workie. installed the 128XD driver w/out any complaints. installed the rotating software w/out any problems. but it just didn't work. right now, i'm trying hard to ask around if anyone knows of anyone working at Fujitsu building in Santa Clara, CA :) My guess is that's their support and sales locatioin.

Boy - I should would like to get this working. I've got my moving map software on it and damn it looks so much nicer and fits on my knee better in portrait. I may be forced to use a touchpad mouse instead of the pen if I can't get this to work soon.

I found out that Fujitsu has some kind of manuf. plant here in my home town. Maybe I'll try and see if anyone there can help out.

Keep us informed Jim of any progress you might make.

Yes, we have success!

http://www.noetzel.net/fuji_rot.zip

Load up these video drivers and take care to overwrite newer files when the driver files are loaded - this video driver is probably older than the one you are currently using.

To install, do "SETTINGS-ADVANCED-ADAPTER-PROPERTIES-DRIVERS" thing and select update driver. (or change it with however you prefer) Select "have disk" and look for the .inf file in the zip.

Couple of notes - these work fine under win95. Under win98 the drivers do not like to come out of Standby mode when you are rotated. To get the screen to rotate, there are some settings under the display properties - it's a little flaky, but it works pretty good.

Sorry for the delay on this, I was going to do some more investigating on these drivers before I released, but got massively side tracked as I turned my 1200 into a wireless version of a universal IR remote control.
