I/R On the 1200

What are people using the I/R port for?? I thought I might get one of my wireless keyboards to work, but no luck so far. I've tried the one from my Gateway touchpad, and also from my WebTV and neither works.

Anyone using that port and give advice on how to configure it.

Thanks!

The IR works great to connect from one 1200 to the other for file transfer and etc. I have not tried any other uses as of yet.

Would you be so kind as to explain exactly how you set up both computers to do a file transfer. That would be really a slick way instead using a network card. My desktop PC also has a built in I/R but I've never used it.

Thanks!

I would be happy to; I am using Win98SE on a Stylistic 1200 with 32 Meg of Ram and 2.1 Gig HD Running PenServices for Win95

1.) Open the control Panel and double click on the IR Icon, By default the "Status" will show that IR is disabled.
2.) Move over to the Options Tab and check the box to enable IR and select the timing to search for other devices( dont know if setting this to pretty often will shorten battery life much or not) and then "Apply" and "OK".
3.) Close the control panel and double click on "My Computer" and double click on " IR recipient"
4.) When there is another IR device within range the name of the computer will show up in the box then just send the file you want to send. The IR puts the recieved files in a folder "C:\My Received Files"

I tried this between two 1200's and it works great. Up to about 6 Feet sitting on the kitchen table. Feel free to email me at drobertson@emergystat.com if you have questions.

I have a question for you, How do you get the 1200 to see 80 meg of ram. I installed 64 meg of edo ram and mine only saw 48 total?

One more thing to add. If you get within range of another IR device the IR Icon in the system tray will begin to flash. I tried it betwee the 1200 and my Dell Laptop PIII 600 running Win2000 and it works fine also, although the range is not as much (3-4 ft)

I think it has to do with the type/mfg of memory installed. I happened accross some that appears to work just fine. My supplier was able to actually "build" more of them to the sames spec's and this is where the last group buy of them came from.

How many chips on your memory? These have 4 on each side.

Skypilot; Did you try the IR and did it work ok for you?

I will have to check the memory chip and see. If I find out that I will need the 80 Meg in the 1200's then I will need about 50 or 60 of them.

No, I have not tried it yet. I'm out of town until the end of the week.

Daver - if you need that much memory, drop me a personal email. That would put us over the top of how many I need to order for the next group buy on memory. Either that, or you can place the order yourself and add extra for those that want it.
