Tranferring HD to a laptop bay to load files

Has anyone tried swapping the 1200's HDD into a laptop's 2.5" drive bay to load files instead of using an adapter & desktop? I just bought my 1200 from KomputerKen (Thanks!) and am trying to set it up as a Wireless web pad for my wife. I had forgotten what a pain Win95 was to work with. I'll be very happy when I move up to Win98SE.

There is no problem at all with putting the HD in your laptop. This is the way I did it, as I did not have an adapter at the time I started this process. Just install it in your laptop that has a CDROM Drive and load it as you would any new HD. Do all of your upgrades while it is on your laptop, including installing other software. One thing you will want to do is copy the entire WIN98SE into a folder on the HD, Do this also with the PenDriver Software for install after returning to the 1200. When you return the HD to the 1200 it will mostlikely need different drivers than your laptop uses, and when it calls for the Win98 CD just point to the folder. A neat way to load smaller amounts of data is to purchase a Compact Flash Card and PCMCIA adapter for it. Then you can copy the data to the CF from your Laptop and onto the 1200. Add any other software you want while the HD is in the Laptop, it is much easier to do it while the HD is in the Laptop. I addressed this in a post earlier on this board also... The idea of using the adapter is only if you donot have a laptop or donot want to open it up. I hope this helps. If I can assist you further let me know.

Thanks! I didn't check the reply and went ahead and tried it. I wish I had gotten your great advise to load the disk. I eventually figured it out. I found this method very easy and had my 1200 up and running in no time at all. Thanks again!
