Mitsubishi Amity CP
Drivers and where to get them...

I realize this is OT, but I figure there's a bunch of pen-computing savvy hackers here.

I recently purchased an Amity CP. Great little lightweight design - no frills, barely any ports, but only about 2lbs with a 166 pentium.

I managed to get the pen services up and running, but can't get it to shut down properly - it goes to a black-but-backlit screen instead of powering down.

I can't get it to properly recognize PCMCIA cards - or more specifically, it will recognize them, but won't start the driver properly. For instance, My Lucent Wavelan card is recognized, sometimes the driver is properly loaded and I get wireless access. Other times, the power light comes on on the card, but no further activity. Also, the controll program doesn't recognize a card there (checking the device in System shows a the name truncated to "L"). I figure there is some kind or problem with the PCMCIA drivers (it uses 2 (!) copies (1 for each slot) of Texas Instruments PCI-Cardbus 1225 controller).

And I can't find any support online. All searches lead to mitsubishi-mobil.com which apparently no longer exists...

Any help or insight would be appreciated. Oh, yeah, it came with W95 on it, I tried installing 98Lite and that got the sound working, but did nothing for the other problems...

TIA,

Pat The Hack

Sounds like fun...If you could figure out who made the chipset, there might be some drivers out there for it, that sounds like what you are missing...for example VIA chipset boards do everything, cards, I/O, etc. And only one set of drivers.

I think System Information may tell you what hardware you have, if not then perhaps SANDRA (a benchmarking program) will. I don't have it installed so I can't be sure.

Since you know it has a TI cardbus controller, you could search for updated drivers for that...win98 may not come with the correct drivers, just generic ones.

Also I assume you properly installed the software for the PCMCIA cards you are trying to use.

Hope that gets you going in the right direction. BTW do you have a pic or link to your machine?

Pat,

I also have a new Amity CP, but have not been able to get any type of input to work. Do you have the optional floppy, or CD to work? How were you able to load Win98?

Thanks
