Confused about BIOS upgrade

Has anybody downloaded and installed the bios upgrade from the fujitsu support website?

The fujitsu Point 510 download site has an Upgrade to BIOS 1.09...

http://www.fpc.fujitsu.com/www/support.shtml?support/softwaredownloads/pentabs/pt510/pt510

When I boot my 510 and get into the BIOS (press F2) it reads...

Phoenix PICO NoteBios Bios 4.0

Whats with the differen't numbers; BIOS 4.0 and Upgrade 1.09?

Any ideas on how to install the BIOS 1.09 without a flopppy disk?

Do I need the BIOS 1.09 upgrade to install Win98?

Thanks for you help!!!

98 installs just fine without the upgrade. I imagine you could load the boot disk on an old hard drive and stick it in just to flash the BIOS, anybody know of a reason why it might be necessary?

Mine was already there but downloaded BIOS update and it states the following:

BIOS V1.09 FEATURES AND OPERATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
1. Puma's TranXit 3.0 Communication Enhanced
The Point 510 BIOS has been modified to fix some of the
communication errors that occur when using TranXit 3.0 with the
Point 510.
2. Suspend/Resume Functionality while in BIOS Setup
With BIOS V1.08, the Suspend/Resume button does not function in BIOS
Setup ("PenSetup"). This deficiency has been rectified with BIOS
V1.09.
3. BIOS Setup Exit Menu Problem - "Save Changes"
With BIOS V1.08, it is not possible to modify any of the other BIOS
menu pages in BIOS Setup after the Save Changes option has been
selected. BIOS V1.09 provides a fix to this problem. With BIOS
V1.09, it is now possible to go to the Exit menu; select the Save
Changes option, and then go back to the other BIOS menus to make
further modifications.
4. BIOS Setup Power Savings Menu Problem - "Resume Time"
BIOS 1.08 has an anomaly associated with the Resume Time BIOS
setting. The Resume Time setting changes every time the Power
Savings setting is changed to "Customize." The problem has been
fixed in BIOS V1.09.
5. Summary Screen reported Cache Size
With BIOS 1.08, the Cache RAM field in the Summary screen reads
"none." This is corrected in BIOS 1.09. The Cache RAM field now
correctly reads "16KB (L1)." This fix does not modify the
performance or functionality of the Point 510. It only changes the
output to the Summary screen displayed during the boot process.

You can see what version BIOS you are at initially on the first boot screen before going into the BIOS not in the
setup menu.

Okay, the first screen that comes up has Fujitsu (in red) at the top and says something like...

Phoenix PICO BIOS - 4.05
Copywright ....
Rev P0003 (V109,H102)

does the V109 mean version 1.09?

I am using the 510 with a LINKSYS WPC11 for web browsing. Web browsing on my 266MHZ laptop with the WPC11 is good but on the 510 its slow as a dog. Is it slow because of the 510 graphics card, the 510 100mhz processor, or both?

Thanks for the replies...

A 486dx4-100 is probably less than 1/3 as fast as a pentium 266. Not only do you have improvements to the processor from 486 to pentium, you also have a faster bus which means everything else is running faster as well. Add to that a better graphics system on the pentium and its no wonder it is faster.

You might want to try opera on the 510, possibly even 5.0 which is smaller. It is noticibly faster in rendering pages so it might make for a usable web client.
