Seems like a good deal, although I'm not sure whether it would be fully recognized by the Fujitsu.
Anyone can confirm ?

The Stylistic wouldn't recognize my 12 gig Fujitsu drive; the bios limitation was 8.4 gig.

I didn't pursue it further (yet); maybe a bios update will take care of it.

Thanks for the info.
I assume you're using the 1.11 BIOS and had LBA enabled ?

BIOS shows "Phoenix NoteBIOS 4.0." LBA is enabled.

I didn't even think about using EZ-BIOS, EZ-Drive, etc. I don't see any reaon why this wouldn't work.

InSol posted in this thread: http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=FujitsuStylistic1200&Post=29 that he installed dual OSes on a 20 gig drive, so I guess it is possible. He didn't mention needing any trickery to use the 20 gigger.

I stuck a 20G IBM drive I had into my 1200. Worked like a charm. The bios did report 8G but still worked OK. I did not chnage the Bios setting at all (as delivered). I put three parts on it: 12G Win ME boot Fat32 and 7.3G Linux ext2 with a 128M swap. No problems....

Wont let me mod my above message????? Anyway youre right - no trickery. I did however do the OS installs on my IBM notebook then put the drive into the 1200. ME wont install on anything less than a 150Mhz....

You can use the /nm switch to install ME. It'll tell ME to ignore the processor speed when installing.
go here for other switches. http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winme_install.asp

hum...Received the 20gig yesteday in its retail box, although the UPS has been cu tout on the actual package...
Seems to work fine, but can't seem to get the Fujitsu to boot from it...
Tried every trick in the book or almost (haven't tried fdisk /mbr yet), but no go.
Did a sys x:, partition is set as active in PartitionMagic, etc...
The BIOS sees the HD as an 8.4gig as described above in the thread. I don't see this as a problem though.
Any thoughts ?

well...installed EZBIOS I had hanging around on an old floppy that came with a WD drive I bought years ago and now it WORKS !
Go figure !
Since I had already copied back the contents of the partitions of the stock 2.1 gig drive, I went into Advanced and simply installed EZBIOS to the mbr, (the Full Auto Setup formats your HD).
Hope that helps someone.

I just installed 10G HD(2G and 8G fat32 partitions) and couldn't boot. So I used ghost to make the HD image from the original HD and restored the partition to the new HD. Now the new HD is bootable. I guess the problem may come from PartitionMagic...

I have been having similar problems, I have an IBM dyla-28100, which is an 8.1 gig drive. I installed linux on it, and it had no problems booting at all. I tried to put Windows on it and it wouldn't boot at all, where it would boot fine in my laptop. I will try to find one of those bios overlay programs, it seems like I should have one somewhere.

Is there something strange about the partition table on the stock drive, or the boot sector?

*SIGH* The problem is not PartitionMagic, I guess my 1200 Bios doesn't like any new boot sector. After I installed Win98, it cannot boot from the 10G HD again, and I can boot from it on my desktop. And I tried to tinstall three time, and failed everytime!!! I will try to install Win98 on the original HD and make an image to put on the 10G HD tonight. If it still won't work, then I have to try those overlay programs. :(

I tried to install win98 on the origial HD then restore the partition to 10G HD, it doesn't work and I can't come up any reason. Somehow my 1200 doesn't like any new boot sector from my 10G HD. I used the following to make it work:
1. make the original 2G HD image (no win98)
2. install win98 on the 2G HD and make another image
3. restore the first HD image to the 10G HD as the first partition
4. restore the second HD image to the 10G HD as the second partition
5. connect the 10G HD to desktop and boot to Windows from another HD then copy all files from second partition to the first partition(under dos you cannot copy the long filename)
Finally I can boot win98 from the 10G HD. I know I can try EZBios but I never buy WD HD (and ever) and can't find it from the net. Anyway hope this will help others.
