Point 510 touchpad: linux driver is coming...

good news: I was able to write a small programm that prints out the pen coordinates when you touch the pad!!

The touchpad uses IO-Ports 0x003e and 0x003f (which are, according to /proc/ioports, used by PIC1 ! ). IRQ seems to be 15, but I'm currently just polling at the ports.

Additional data will be posted soon. Next thing I will do is writing a kernel module to emulate a mouse. Any better ideas?
It's just a matter of time ...

I am a happy man.
Norbert

Good news, second edition:

There is now a (hopefully) working pen driver for the Point 510, downloadable via

http://www.softwarekombinat.de/point510/pt510ts-0.8.tgz

It is usable with XFree86 by using the SUMMA Touchscreen protocol.
( With gpm's repeater mode, it should also be possible to simulate a normal mouse, too ).

The softkey to simulate the right mouse button is not working, so you have to live with one button, for now. I'll have a second look at the windows drivers when I have the time again. The rest should be okay, I think.

This is the first "real" public release from me ever. I hope it does what you expect from it...

Regards,
Norbert Wagner

Hi Norbert, the driver works a treat, thanks. Have you thought about posting the code on http://www.linuxslate.org/ ?

Hi Kevin,

nice to hear its working

First of all, there is new version at
http://www.softwarekombinat.de/point510/pt510ts-0.9.tgz

with support for the "right button" - softkey. Now it's working for me exactly like the windows driver does and I won't modify it until someone requests to do so.

I'll most probably set up some web pages dedicated to "Linux on the Point 510" the next days or weeks - and I'd like to host the driver there by myself.
But I have absolutly no problem with www.linuxslate.org (or anybody else) hosting the driver, too - linuxslate is an already well known place and my pages are not more than vaporware at the moment...

But it would be nice if everyone who wants to host the driver drops me a line, so I have knowledge about where the driver is downloadable and can send notifications on new versions.

Mmhh, perhaps I'll contact linuxslate on this topic the next days.

regards,
Norbert Wagner

There is now also a version that works under the 2.2 series kernels. It is up at http://www.qgenuity.com/pt510ts-0.9-2.2kern.tar.gz. It is nova's driver for the 2.4 series, slightly modified so that it will compile under 2.2. It will also be posted on nova's website.

I'm also working on getting an XF86Config together that will work on xfree 3.3.6.
