Read the nearby post about 1200 hard drives -- the same applies to the 510. Toshiba MK2103/2105MAV's came in both.

I've tried this with two kinds of drives. The first drive I tried was an IBM 20 Gb drive DJSA-220, available for about 100 bucks on ebay. Works like a champ if you set the bios to USER Defined disk: 4200/63/16 manually. On boot up, it looks like a 2 Gb Drive, but you have a full 20 Gb of space when you look in from the operating system (Windows 98 on mine).

I then sold that drive and tried to get a Fujitsu 6Gb drive to work, model MHK2060AT. I could never get it to boot. No matter what tricks I tried, it always hung at the OS load. The drive boots other laptops fine.

So I'm selling it and I bought another DJSA-220. The second DJSA-220 works fine too!

Do you know of any IBM laptops, or other laptops that had that hard drive in it, or was this just a special IBM hard drive made by IBM that wasn't sold in laptops?
