Can I Use My 98SE Upgrade CD from the 95 Installed?

I just ordered my 1200 so I don't have it yet, but, I already have a number of questions. My will be coming with Windows 95 installed. Can I use my 98SE Upgrade CD to upgrade the OS? Will the other programs such as needed for the Pen and Handwriting Recognition be lost?
Thanks,

Dan

Come on folks. Someone out there must have attempted a 98SE upgrade CD from 95 on the 1200. Let me here your results.

The 98SE Upgrade CD that I have can only be used to upgrade from Win98, not from Win95 ... the full 98SE CD is needed for a full install. The best OS combination I've used on ST1200, that retains all Pen and screen rotation functions, is Win 95B (OSR2).
However, if you don't mind losing usable screen rotation, Win98SE works great... the screen rotates but the pen doesn't!
PCCard CD readers work with either.

I wish knew about the PC Card CDs working with either earlier. Oh well, I still think I'll be OK with my parallel CD.

I do have both the 98 and 98SE as well as the full 98Me disks all with certificates. If the pen doesn't work with 98s I'm wondering why I shouldn't just go to the 98Me and use a small keyboard? Any other issues I need to know about with 98X. I know 98Me is a hog and may need a CPU > 120MHz. And I think both Se and Me had Suspend and Shutdown issues that may be important to a tablet with questionable battery. Then on the other hand I remember 95 being a pain in the rear with a lot of software compatibility issues and frequent lockups... and forceful shutdowns, oooh the memories are coming back.

Let me hear from you. Which OS have you gotten to run on the 1200 and like the best... and why?

I'm using 98SE light on the units I have. They run fine. You will have to install pen service after you install Win 98 to get the touch screen to work again. Also your handwritting software that you want to use. I used PM and made mine duel bootable so I can run Win 95 or 98. See you already got your cd drive but if your not happy with it you might want to look at a nice pcmcia dvd/cd at Tiger Direct for $49, nice little unit. Good luck !

I saw that PCMCIA CD/DVD drive from Tiger. That looks like a good deal. I don't believe I remember seeing an external DVD drive so cheap. Are some good Pen programs and Handwriting programs downloadable as freebies?
