Is anyone familiar with the CMOS battery in the 1200? Where is it located? What kind is it? How do you change it? Any info appreciated.

There is a battery pack (green or blue in color...I think green) that is right below the plastic front piece...I believe it is near the speaker/microphone area.

It looks like 6 watch batteries laying in a row...so its about 2 inches long with a cable that plugs into the mobo.

It either does that, or it maintains memory when the computer is in standby and you want to swap main batteries...

That is all the info I have...

Oh yea you get at it by mostly disassembling the system.

That battery pack is the NiMH bridge battery. The Cmos battery is a 3v lithium coin cell soldered on the screen side of the motherboard in the area of the PCMCIA slots.

Hi YouBecha and wanderer,

Thanks for the answers. Wanderer, I bought a second 1200 that I put the old HD in. It worked fine for 3 startups then, it would no longer boot. The hard drive symbol shows at first showing it beginning to boot then it just drops out and stops. It would go farther with the boot process with the first retries, but, now just stops a few seconds into the boot. That leads me to believe it is a battery problem. I might be wrong, I don't know.

If it is a batttery problem, do either of you know which batery it may be and where I might be able to find a replacement?

Doesn't sound like a battery problem. Try pulling the hard drive back out and see if it will go through POST, then hit F2 and reset the BIOS to default settings. Make sure the hard drive is set to autoselect. If it still won't work, try pulling the memory out, too.

I removed the HD. After engaging the start button, nothing happens. I replaced the HD and again the HD symbol appears for about 2-3 secs before going out then nothing. I removed the memory and the same thing happens. I replaced the memory with another chip I had from the other unit and still the same - 2-3 secs of HD symbol and hint that I hear the HD clicking, then, nothing.

You are turning it off and back on with the slide switch? Even with all three batteries dead and a failed HDD, plugging in the AC after pulling the drive should get something. Anybody got any ideas? At this point I'd say it was a bad motherboard.
