When I fired up my 2300 today the screen stayed dark. Worked fine yesterday. Also, the hotpad functions (volume and brightness) seem to be dead. The drives are functional and I can access my files via the local network. Is there something I should push/prod/shake/rotate to get my display back?
I tried the moniter button right away without success. I think the whole hotpad is dead -- as well as the screen. As I recall from poking around inside a 1200, the display gets its power from an inverter board separate from the motherboard. If anybody knows a source for parts, or some other suggestion to fix the problem, I'd be appreciative. I feel a little lost without my 2300.
OK, an update -- the first report was not completely correct. (1) The hotpad keys are not dead -- I can make the volume keys "squeak" when I toggle them. I couldn't hear them before. The brightness key don't seem to have any effect on the screen. (2) If I turn off all the lights in the room, I can just detect a ghostly image of the dialogue boxes that show up when the computer is started. In fact, the 2300 boots normally except for the screen which remains very dark. I hope this new information narrows things down a bit.
you need the ST2300 Technical Reference Guide of which I am still looking for a copy, I have the ST1000 Technical Reference Guide and it includes a parts list so I expect the same for the ST2300.
I tried the Fujitsu technical support crew and was told they don't release part numbers/information. I've put out some feelers elsewhere and if I stumble across a Tech Guide I'll let you know. At this point my options seem to be: (1) find the tech specs or (2) a broken 2300 with working inverter and CCFL.
I was able to get the Fujitsu part number for my inverter board: CA46010-1603 ($19)-- mine has a TFT screen. The number for a transflective screen is CA46010-1604. Fujitsu now says they won't sell the part, but for $175 will install a new one in the computer. For the moment, I'm holding out for a replacement inverter. Interestingly, the CCFL is not listed as a separate item -- if the bulb is bad, I guesss you have to replace the whole screen.
