Linux and gpm...
Using gpm in Linux with the stylus

I am looking for a way to get the stylus to work with gpm, in Linux.
I have the serial port setup and working and the stylus works in X-Windows.
I would like to be able to get the stylus to work from the commands line as well.

has anyone got this to work?

I just installed RedHat 9.

I got all the normal stuff to operate, network, internet, I even loaded it using a USB cdrom.

Three problems.

1. I am not a linux guru...I have installed it on 2 other machines with limited success.

so therefore

2. Gnome is a absolute processor hog...It takes seconds to do anything...(I only have 32M memory still)

and worst

3. I have no concept on how to install the pen drivers etc. I read the docs but those directories don't exist exactly as named on my machine...So I am not exactly sure where to put the files...

anywho I believe the files are where they need to be...now where the heck to I put the setup info...again I have no idea where to look.

I tried typing the commands (in an older thread), but like the person in that thread I get errors.

(ok I assumed he was in root, but what is "fuji1200:~# cat penSetup.sh")

So could someone...in non alphageek terms tell me which directories to look in, and what files I need to modify...and what I need to modify them with...

I assume I have the 4xx kernal, but I have no idea where to find that out either.

You know, everytime I install linux and finally get it working...I realize how well windows works.

penSetup.sh is just a shellscript he wrote to set up his pen parameters, in that file were just a list of commands (like a DOS batch file) that saved him from typing:
setserial /dev/ttyS3 irq 15 port 0xfce8
setserial /dev/ttyS3 autoconfig
setserial /dev/ttyS3 irq 15 baud_base 115200
each time. I have a Fuji510 and have pen support near flawless - if you'd like me to try & help you get it running on your 1200, email me at lordzamiel-AT-hotmail-DOT-com

I am waiting till some more memory comes in the mail...Even with IceWM it runs a bit slow...ok a lot slow...with 32m of memory...

So no pen driving yet..

It's been a while and my brain's a bit foggy (and I'm too darn lazy to search for the post(s)), but I believe it was Mallum who had a pen driver for TinyX (and IIRC gpm) cobbled together. I was never able to make it work before my pt510 was mothballed, but I know the TinyX vesa server ran MUCH quicker than standard X 4.2.0, probably 3-5x, and as a bonus RANDR rotation support could then be used.. If someone with more programming ability than I could make it work, and then write docs on how to do it for those of us that are mere mortals, that would make the pt510 a much more viable platform for daily use.

Ok, time to deal with this hypoglycemia & then go to bed.. Darn, it's already 5:40am?!

Ok, checked my archives and it was in fact Mallum, and I do still have the driver if anyone would like to take a whack at it.

Boy, this board is a real pain when it comes to threads being hijacked. I've seen two or three now where the original question is ignored, and the other six messages in the thread are replies to the second message, not the original one.

GPM doesn't have a driver for the Fujitsu series styluses. I'm hacking one up for my stylistic 1200 based on the X version 4 driver (I'm using the framebuffer based links browser) and it's almost working. No eta on when it will be posted to the net yet, but I'll probably send it to the gpm folks when it's done.
