I have an 1200 with an empty hard drive. After reading a number of messages in this board, I am deciding to install the hard drive in a standard laptop, copy Windows CD and win98 system to main partition on hard disk, install hd back into 1200 tablet and install windows.

My questions are:
1) anyone ever run Win xp on the 1200?
2) anyone ever run Win 2000 on the 1200?
I am guessing that there is not enough horsepower and will likely install Win 98SE but would appreciate comments before I start installing..

I am using a 6.4GB hard drive and do not anticipate problems with the bios?!?

Thanks again for any insight.

I am running 2k on it right now (well just got done installing it last night.

I only have 32M of ram on board so I am sure that slows it down a bit.

Right now I am seeing if I can get the pen to work.

Other than that, everything has installed normally.

Shouldn't be possible on a 1200. Even with the RAM upgraded to 80 MB, you don't have enough CPU. For Windows 2000, (keep in mind, this is from the MS site) you need a 133 MHz processor. If/when I get a 1200, I'll just keep Windows 95 OSR2 on it (I'll get it from http://www.oportal.com/stylistic1200/ so that I don't have to get on off of eBay...).

"Recommended" and "Possible" are two different things. Microsoft recommends a 486/66 for Win98 but it works fine on a 386DX/40 with a bit of work getting it installed. Minimum requirements are as much disclaimers to keep support requests for slow software down as they are actual requirements. If you're happy with the performance of something on something below the reqs, then there's no reason not to run it.

I'm still trying to get the pen working on 2k/XP on my 2300 as well.

It runs just fine (2k that is) on the 1200...

HOWEVER...there are no pen drivers for that configuration.

So I have a HD with 2k and one with 98 depending on what I am doing
