PT1600: Boot Problems (Invalid System Disk...)
No Boot on PT1600

Hi All,

Just got a new/used 1600 and am having trouble getting it's (presumably stock) 4GB HD to boot.

Here's where I've been:

Connected HD to my desktop using an adapter and booted off a Win98 boot diskette (after disconnecting the power to my desktop's hard-drives)

Ran fdisk, selected "Y" for large disk support (ie. FAT32) and created a single 4GB partition.
Set partition to Active/bootable
Reboot using Boot diskette (just cuz fdisk told me to...)
Formatted drive
Transferred system files (sys c:)

In the desktop, I was able to boot directly to the laptop HD without any problems.

Unfortunately, not all is fine when it's in the Fuji!! I keep getting the "Invalid System disk..blah, blah, blah" error.

The BIOS is set to auto detect (it matches the settings my desktop detected cyl:8944, head:15, sector:63). I'm assuming (maybe incorrectly) that the PT1600 BIOS supports FAT32 partitions...can someone confirm this?

Otherwise, I'm at a loss!

Any ideas??

Thanks in advance

I had the same problem with the stock 4GB HD in PT1600. Kept getting the same "Invalid system disk" error after formating it in every possible way. I think I did manage to get to a windows 98 install going but got the boot error once it rebooted. I ended up just using a different HD I had lying around. It booted perfectly after that. This probably doesn't help your situation but at least you're not alone on this.

Thanks much for the info.

With the 4GB drive, I ended-up having to use FAT16 for both the boot the extended partitions (a FAT16 boot and a FAT32 extended partition still got me an "invalid system disk..." error.).

Still had some problems after I got it booting. The first reboot during the Win98 install left me looking at a blank screen. I had to sys the disk again and it was able to finish the install.

So far (knock on wood), I haven't had any more problems.

Fellow Point 1600'ers, please help, i am at my wits end.

I recently bought a Point1600 and am having lots of problems getting the PEN to
install flawlessly. I have performed a clean Win98SE install i appear to have the pen
working (just using driver pen-pt1600-win9x.exe) although when i look at the device manager i
have a yellow exclamation for "Fujitsu Point 1600 Pen Tablet", looking at the properties it says that
"The PENPNP.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver. (Code 2)
To fix this, click Update Driver to update the device driver"
I cannot however get it to successfully update.

When i try to calibrate via Control Panel->Pen Configuration i get "Error opening PEN.DRV!"

I also applied the patch windrv-pt1600-win9x.exe which hasnt made any difference.

I also notice that the video drivers when installed put the pen calibration way off.
Tried an updated driver a30843.exe from driverguide.com but no luck.

If anyone has the point1600 working well please please help.

Any help much appreciated.

Rgs
Paul
