The 1200 was used as an early variant of a kneeboard moving map. The guys that built this (NAWCAD) are a great group of individuals that I've had the pleasure to be in contact with on another project they are working on. Now that I know this, there are some questions I need to ask them... like what hardware hacks did they do to the 1200.

I just finished hooking up a Garmin GPS-35 HVS to one of my 1200s for a friend to use as a moving map. The GPS-35 comes in a low power version which can draw power from the PS/2 port. Took 15 mins to wire up a serial adapter and a PS/2 connector. Current draw is mucho low. The GPS-35 isn't cheap ($185) but it does allow for higher speeds (> 99 knots) making it perfect for use in the aviation field.

Jim - this is exactly the application I plan on using it for. I'm using the Jeppeson Flight Map moving map software on a couple of laptops and want to see how it will work on the 1200 when I get it.

Wish I could get a copy of that software to see how it compares. *Sigh* - guess I should have stayed in the Air Force.

8-)

FWIW, I've used Falconview (Moving Map) on it and it works fine. The 1200 screen handles itself well in bright light - it's not daylight readible in direct sunlight, but it is pretty good. A friend of mine is making a fabric holder for the 1200 so I'm trying to get this thing mounted on a kneeboard.

Forgot to mention - I'm running it with portrait mode software from http://www.portrait.com

I've managed to get the CF-01 touch screen to work in portrait mode, but I haven't had any luck yet with the 1200. Pulling my hair out playing in the registry trying to get the 1200 pen driver to work flipped on the side.

The CF-01 form factor was great for a kneeboard mount, but it's screen really hurt it. It didn't take much ambient light to make it unusable.

If you ever get the touch to work in portrait, let me know. I too have that software and would like to get it to work with the touchscreen.
