I'd be interested in one if it works. I should have my machine this week. I'll let you know when it arrives. Can you give more detail on the RAM? It's a SODIMM, right?

Yeah somehow EDO and SDRAM don't fit well together ?! Isn't it either EDO or SDRAM ?
You can send it to me if you want me to test ii though.
I've got a 64mb EDO module up and running.

Hello again,

It is EDO sodimm, BUT it possible it is always possible that it may have some wierd timing set in it,
So I am having someone test one of them. If it works , GREAT , - I am also curious what will happen if I
plug in an EDO 128 meg SODIMM, has anybody tried it? I wouldn'y be suprised if it only sees 64 meg but- you never know-
...Or maybe it won't see any of it at all?...

The mystery races on.... ;0)

If this doesn't work, I'll dig around from a supplier (I do eBay) for standard EDO sdram, I should be able to buy a
bunch and offer them at really low prices if I can get 20-30 people behind it. I went after the current ones as they are new
in blister packs....

Also- does anyone have ALL the part #'s for the docks that are compatible w/ these units? If so I would appreciate it,
I will dig for them ... I make biweekly trips to about 5 different Wholesalers/Recyclers so if any of them have any, It's your
gain, I will offer them up CHEAP here as my contribution to the board. I know of one place that HAD a bunch of pcmcia hard drives
and some pen looking "things" not so long ago, I just didn't know what they were. I am hoping the accessories are still around.

Wish me luck!

So it's an EDO SODIMM ?
Just to clarify, I think EDO is the type of RAM (EDO, SDRAM, DDRAM, RDRAM,etc...) and SODIMM is the form factor (SIMM, SODIMM, etc...)

EDO is Extended Data Out, which is a type of ram as Yellow1 said. SDRAM is Synchronis Dynamic Random Access Memory. The other you are likely to see is FPM, Fast Page Mode, which existed before and during EDO's reign.

SODIMM is Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module, which is just what it sounds like, a mini version of a normal DIMM like your desktop probably uses.

I would like one of your memory modules for $40.15 and I will gladly test one if you will take it back if it is incompatible. I have 2 1200's, one already has 80m thanks to the ebay seller but the one I just ordered will need its "fix" as well.

PS. I am tcbordp on ebay so I guess I am reasonably honest as well.

Jim,
I saw that too. Any idea which is better? I'm thinking 4x16 but it is just a guess. I never realy understood the differences in the chip count.

VivianC:

The difference is that it is very possible that one will work and the other will not. It depends on how the memory is decoded by the electronics on the motherboard and how the on board memory is arranged. Quite often when you get the wrong arrangement for an add on memory module it will only show up a fraction of its actual size because the whole amount is not being decoded correctly.

Also this is not just a portable system problem. There are currently SDRAM DIMM memory modules in 256M size that are not compatible with older motherboards even thougn both motherboard and memory are PC100. These modules use a different arrangement of chips that have to be supported by the board to work correctly. So much for standards like PC100.
