Stylistic 1200 power supply jack polarity info needed

Just bought a couple used 1200s (haven't arrived yet) without power supplies and am wondering if someone can look at their Fujitsu power supply and tell me the polarity of the plug/jack/connector. They may have a little diagram with a positive and negative sign- one sign will point to the center and the other to the outer part. If the power supplies don't have that diagram could someone hook up a volt meter and let me know the polarity? I do already know the voltage is supposed to be 16 volts DC and 2.7 amp, and that the jack is a standard Japanese type 5 connector.

Thanks!

E

Look at www.xs4all.nl/~hjrut/ in there i put a folder called FJ1200 with software and information about the FJ1200. There is a >100 pages technical manual. You can find the answer there easily and much more future answers (there will be a lot of questions, you can be sure)!!!

Thanks. I had already downloaded all the files from your site and checked the Tech Reference but did not see anything about the polarity of the jack. I could be mistaken but I don't think it's there, probably because this is such basic info and is usually printed on the power supply itself.

Center pin positive. I think I saw the adapter at Radio Shack, if you're planning to rig something.

Thanks for the replies. Anyone have any ideas on where to locate these plugs/connectors? I have one from an old power supply but could use several more. They are called EIAJ-05 as far as I can tell. Using Google I found one possible source in the US but it did not pan out, also emailed a manufaturer in Asia but have not heard back and figure it's a long shot because I only need 7 of them.

Thanks, E

6thed:

the plug is Radio Shack Adaptaplug "T", catalog number 273-1723.

check with a meter to see which pin goes to the center before soldering and powering up.

have fun,

oldman, looks like that model adapter plug is no longer offered on the RS website/catalog, but they have a lot of 4 asst. EIAJ plugs that may include the correct size, cat. number 273-1646. Cost is $9.99, plus the cost of the cable if you want it to look neat... A guy on ebay sells the complete power supply for the Stylistic for $9.99 plus s/h, I may go that way if he will give me a deal on 7 of them.

hjrutgers- I picked up the lot of "as-is" Stylistic 1200's for a very inexpensive price, my plan is to tinker around with them, keep at least one for mobile mapping, then sell the rest, hopefully break even on the deal. They come with pens and docks, so even if they are not working/missing parts I should be able to part them out. They should arrive today. Nice photos on your website, I like the custom bracket. I may try something like that.

Screens are mono TF, my next task is to see if I can take DSTN color screens from a Stylistic 1000 and replace the mono screen. I'll see what the board says...

Thanks, E

hjrutgers:

is your color a tft screen or dstn?

dstn color displays are about worthless in a car in daylight.

I use a little Toshiba Portege P90 notebook in the car with GPS.

the hard part is getting my wife to hold it so I can see the display.

have fun,

it's a TFT screen, works pretty good by normal daylight, at night it's perfect.
see my webpage, build your own wire frame and your wife can hold other things when your on the road

The 1200s I got all have transreflective mono screens. At first I thought the displays weren't that great, but the more I use them the more I like them. The trick is to adjust the settings correctly, both with the touch sensitive brigtness, contrast, and backlight and Windows display settings. In Windows Display Properties, Appearance I like the High Contrast White setting.

For indoor use these aren't that great, but outdoors or in a car they are. The more sunlight the better.

I had a 1200 with a TFT Color screen and it was usable in a car but I found it kind of hard to see if there was much sun out. Other than that the TFT screen on the 1200 are great and I recommend picking one up if you can find one cheap.
