Help with a Linux install on a fuji 3400

I know there's someone here that can help!. I'm trying to install Linux on my Fuji 3400, as the sole OS. I've installed windows 98se on several Fuji's in the past (2300, 3400). I recently installed Win 2000 pro on a 20gig drive in the 3400 (still haven't gotten the pen to work consistently, but haven't tried very hard). I really just want to get into the Linux thang. With my past installs of MS OS on the Fuji's I had to remove the drives, and insert them in my desktop, copy the OS to the drive, then pop the drive back into the 3400....I'm fairly comfortable with that process. I'm not sure how to do it with Linux. I have Linux redhat 6.1, 8.1, and I just got the Fedora core 1 loaded on my desktop (I like it soooo much I want to insatll it on the 3400). I'm not proficient with Linux, but I want to "play" with it on my 3400 while I'm in meetings. I also have a Fuji 4120, soooo I'm not too concerned with screwing the 3400 up.... I know it's a windows world, but I have 6kids each with there own PC....I eventually want to load Linux on all of them so they can become Linux Junkies, and take over the Home IS dept functions. I've looked at many of the Linux sites (ie linuxslate), and I'm just not clear on the install without the use of CD/Flop...I understand that there is a way to install over a network, but I just installed a network at home, got it working, but not exactly sure how I did it (current home OS's 98se, Win 200 Pro, XP Talet Edition, XP pro).
in Summary:
How do you install Linux on a 3400 (w/o a CD, or floppie)
Which version works best on a 3400 (I'd prefer Fedora Core 1)

Thanks much!
Bryan

Bryan,

When I installed RedHat on a Gateway Connected Touchpad I used this article as a guide:

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-7.3-Manual/install-guide/s1-x86-begininstall-hd.html

If I remember correctly, I created a DOS bootable 2GB FAT16 partition to store the ISO disk images and a directory skeleton. Not sure how much of Disc 1 I needed to copy to the HD (copy everything to be safe).

I also followed this guide:
http://linuxguide.automatedshops.com/LinuxGuide/redhat-hd-install.html

After booting to DOS, I ran Autoboot (located in dosutils?) to start the installation program. Once in the install program, I had to monkey around with the "directory" field a couple of times before I got the pathing correct.

Hopefully this install method is still supported in the latest version of RedHat. If not, I know it was working in the previous version (8.x ?)

Jay sends...

I've been running Debian on my 2300 and 3500 for awhile now, it runs very well. I don't have experience with Fedora, and my last Red Hat experience was with 6.0, but Debian is meant to do net install.

Debian has a bit of a reputation of being difficult, but the new installer that comes with Testing is great. There's lots of good Debian-specific help out there too, although I've seen plenty for Fedora as well.

For the pen, head over to www.linuxslate.com and grab the 3400/3500 driver there. Drop it in the proper directory where it says, make sure your XF86Config-4 is set up right (Readme says how) and it should work without much else. I personally find the passive digitizer mildly annoying compared to my 2300, but the ability to operate it with a finger tends to outweigh the annoyance.
