I need to help tring to install Linux on a Fujistu Point 1600. I've tried loading with LOADLIN but i could't get anywhere with it. What are some other options that have worked for some of you.
I just started the same project last night. First, I got a second hard drive and put my original away for safekeeping. Then I got one of the adapters that allow installation of a 2.5 inch drive in a desktop. I disconnect my desktop hd's (to eliminate the possibility of installing to the wrong drive) and install the 2.5 inch and my DVD.
I use SuSE on the desktop, so I installed it with a minimal graphical desktop to the 2.5" drive. You may want to use command line only. I think it set up fvwm for the window manager. Firefox and Thunderbird work fine. I then pulled the drive from the desktop and put the desktop back together.
Then I went to bed.
I intend to run sax (x configurator) to set up the card and monitor. I'll post my experiences as they happen.
I followed a similar process this week to install linux on my Point 1600 -- picked up a laptop drive USB enclosure and did a HD install from Knoppix onto it. Always need to fiddle with lilo in this setup because it is at a different drive letter assignment then in the fujitsu (sda vs. hda). This is fixed with setting the disk to 0x80 in lilo.conf. Knoppix autodetects most things quite well.
Where I'm having trouble is getting the pen to work -- any suggestions would be appreciated (inan@coldsnap.ca).
Thanks.
