new ST 1200
What am I doing wrong?

I bought a "new" Fujitsu ST 1200 off e-bay, probably from one of the fellows listed in other areas of this site. Unit seems to be working just fine. It came with Windows 95 OS, 2.1gb hard drive, 120mb pentium processor. I want/need to upgrade from Windows 95 to Windows 98. I bought a serial cable and tried to link up to my desktop in order to access drives and files. Never did get the two computers to recognize each other. I bought an ethernet card. I can't yet get the ethernet connection to work. The "network neighborhood" is "not accessible". OK - I can get by with floppy discs and USB drives once Windows 98 is up and running.

I bought a port replicator. I have added a floppy drive and a backpack CD-Rom - both of which seem to be working fine. When I try to install new software, I keep getting messages about certain files, kernels, etc. which are missing or inaccessible. Windows 98 upgrade software comes this week.

I'm kinda frustrated at this point. I think I just lack enough knowlege to overcome what must be basic and simple setup problems with Windows 95. This after fifteen years with apple/Mac and three years with Windows XP. What do I need to know and do to upgrade to windows 98, and install MS Word, and MS reader sucessfully?

Thanks

Well, Window 98 upgrade arrived today, but I've had no luck installing the upgrade. I get messages like: Required DLL file: kernel 72 DLLL missing, GDI32.DLLLI file missing, UWER.DLL file missing, etc.

I don't know what to do next.

Help me, please, anyone?

Start up the Stylistic with a good running WIN95.

Copy the WIN95 install files to a folder on the Stylistic.

Copy the all the install files for all your programs and drivers to their own folders on the Stylistic.

Copy the WIN98 upgrade installation files to a folder on the Stylistic.

Restart the Stylistic to a dos 'C:\' prompt, change to the folder where you put the WIN95 files and reinstall WIN95 on top of itself.

When you have WIN95 running well, install the WIN98 upgrade. Your other programs and drivers should work, but if not, reinstall them.

Keep having fun,

Why dont you boot from a dos diskette and install W98 or W98SE directly, works fine (in my case)
