Test a Battery ?

Hello.

It is like my 1200 battery just died (or maybe the problem come from the computer itself ?).

When the power adaptor is connected, I've got the right icon (the one that indicates the battery is charging, you see), but the gauge doesn't increase. Anyway, I think there is a good luck to save my battery, beacause it is detected.

My questions are : is there a way to test it, possibly with a multimeter ?
Same question with the computer.

I miss the pinout datasheet, I looked at the Tech Ref, but I didn't find it...

Thank you.

Batteries need to be tested under load, and they need to be fully charged to do this. IMHO your battery is no longer accepting a charge, so it's at the end of it's life. If your 1200 is running off of the power supply, you can assume the PS is good and able to charge the battery. To make a long story short, it's time for a new battery.

Ordinarily, one would expect an aging battery to deteriorate gradually, and show some warning signs like not taking a full charge, or discharging a lot if just left sitting for a day or so.

If it suddenly stopped charging at all, it might be a bad connection between the battery and the 1200. Check the battery contacts for any signs of discoloration, or fragments of potato chips

If they don't look clean, first try cleaning them with a cotton swab and alcohol. If there are still dark spots, try rubbing them gently with a new, clean pencil eraser. Don't press hard, because you might bend them. And don't use a used eraser, because it might have picked up contaminants that could cause problems.
