How did you get the 2300 pen working in W2k???

I folowed the instructions of a previous thread (below) to get the pen working in W2k, but when I try to specify the Compaq driver I get an error along the lines of 'no hardware matches the driver'.

So why did ut work for Mark, anyone else got this driver working? I have tried bare W2k and with SP3

Any ideas?

Thanks Ants

Previous solution:

"I've just got the Fujitsu 2300 pen working with Win2k, and it goes really well. I've got 160MB ram, 20 GB HDD formated as NTFS. I'm using sygate personal firewall, Mcafees anti virus and am using SQL 2000 and VB6.
To get the pen to work, use the download from compaq (used above for XP):
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp21501-22000/SP21627.exe
Run the exe and unpack to a directory, but don't install the program.
Make sure the digitizer is disabled in system in control panel. Then update the drivers for the digitizer, choose "Show me a list and let me choose one". Then choose "Other devices", "have disk" and then select the drivers you just unpacked with the compaq program. It should install, and when you now move the pen you can see the mouse coordinates changing. Make sure you calibrate it correctly, as to re-calibrate it, you'll need to deinstall it, disable it and then reinstall it again.
That's it.

Mark."

I've got the same problem running XP Tablet.

I've followed the instructions but am told that the files don't match the hardware.

The Pen works fine on the hotpad buttons but not on the screen.

I've tried the W98 / NT / 2k drivers for this and for the 1100 and 3400 with no joy.

Any help at all for myself and the good sir above would be greatly appreciated.

Some quick further information: when using the extracted files from: SP21627.exe

when it tires to install is gets through a few files then says: "The files 'penui.dll' on FPSIPEN is needed."

This file is part of the Win 98 2300 Pen Driver pack and if you supply this file is asks for the next one from that same 98 pack, If you keep feeding is files as asked the install completes but it errors at the very end telling me that the install has failed due to the drivers being 98 specific.

I will be honest...it has been almost a year since I put 2k on...but I followed the directions here. I may have had to play around a bit, but it has been working well for so long I didn't realize that it was a hack.

As an update - the first problem with the files asking for Win98 was resolved by clean installing XPTablet and not using an Win98 upgrade to XPT.

But the problem remains as when I click on 'update driver' for the digitizer it tells me that the files do not contatin information about my hardware. If I add it manually through 'have disk' the same thing happens.

I don't have the 'Human Interface Devices' there for it either so the question is, do you have to run the install files in the install pack or is there a way to get it to detect the HID without running the installer?

after OS installation new hardware is found but no drivers are available to install. Select NO to search and click the box that allows you select the device from a list. Select HID or digitizer and click have disk. Point to the folder with the Compaq driver files. A message will say "not the right drivers" or something like that. Install them anyway. The digitizer should work. You may have to reboot. If you have to, delete the device in the control panel and start over. NO NOT update drivers from the device window, this will not work.

Thank you seeker for the help but sadly this didn't work either.

I've blown the OS away totally and reinstalled it in case there was something hanging about in the registry or an inf files somewhere that was doing something odd but the same thing happens.

As soon as the OS starts and it prompts me for the software install I do as you mentioned and point it the driver and it reports that it's not the right driver for the hardware. There is no option to install anyway, only back or finish to disable the device and install drivers later. I'm the IT manager for our business and I can assure you I'm clicking the right button(s).

I've had this same discussion on a number of lists and forums now and people can either get it to work or not and I'm starting to think that there may have been more than one version of the digitizer chipset released or something.

That said, in the mean time I think I'm going to go back to 98se : ) so I can actually make use of it.

Thanks again all the same.

You CANNOT use the automatic new hardware found window. Cancel or click through the screens to FINISH. Then go to the control panel> add new hardware > manually add hardware from the list DO NOT USE SEARCH FOR HARDWARE. You will select "show all hardware" in the window that comes up in the next list then pick HID or digitizer.

Yup, I've done that too. It was listed in a earlier topic posted a while ago by someone.

Clean install Win XP, clicked past all the 'add new hardware' options, went to 'add new hardware', 'picked show all hardware', clicked HID as digitizer wasn't there, pointed it to the extracted files and received: files do not contain information about this hardware.

I'd not run the setup from the driver package, I'd not added any other HID hardware, I'd not used the auto detect / install options, still reported the same error.

Further to that, there is no option to install them anyway, just cancel and back.
