I've read through the other threads on the list and I hope I'm not repeating anything so here goes.
I've got a 2300 with 160 mb RAM and a 30GB disk that runs fine. I also have a spare 4 GB disk for testing.
I DON'T have the CD or Floppy drives for it.
So to get the OS on the HDD I installed 2Kpro with the 30 gb disk in an old PC then dumped it in the 2300 and it detects the drive fine but after the post boot screen comes up there's just a flashing cursor in the top left of the screen.
I read the post about damaged drive cables so I connected the 4GB HDD which only has DOS 6.22 on it and it booted fine.
Tried the 2k one again and the same thing happened.
Thinking that 2k might be too stupid to deal with the change in hardware (tho I had expexted it to boot a little way at least) took the 30GB disk and installed XP Tablet on it with it in the old PC then took it back and put it in the 2300 and tried to boot.
The same thing happened, flashing cursor in the top left corner.
I've messed with it for ages and for the life of me can't think what it's doing as you can hear it try to access the disk a number of times before giving up. I've even tried fdisk /mbr just in case there was something screwy there but it made no difference.
After all that I took the 30GB disk back to the old PC and it booted fine.
The final test. In the same PC I Fdisked the 30GB disk and installed DOS 6.22 and then put it back in the 2300, and of course it booted first time.
So the Drive works, the drive cable works, the OS is installed and boots, just not on the 2300.
I installed W98se on the old machine on the 30GB HDD and it booted first time in the 2300 so my question is, why the heck doesn't don't the 2k or XP Tablet ones at least try to boot to where the white line goes across the bottom of the screen?
Any help would be great as I'm stumpped.
