I have recenty won an ebay auction for a use 1200.
I paid 9.99 UKP. The device has no hard drive.
I was planning on using a compact flash card and getting one of those IDE to Compact Flash adaptors.
Does anyone have experience of this?
Also the unit does not have a battery, does anyone know of a good dealer for this?
Regarding choice of wifi cards, is there a list of compatable low power wifi cards around?
I can only answer on the CF question, specifically related to linux.
I first installed slackware onto a junk hd using my desktop and setup grub on it. I removed all unwanted files (man pages, modules, etc.) until disk usage was less than 256MB. I shrank the fs and parition to less than 256MB. I then booted into my regular desktop os with both the slackware hd and cf attached and dd'd the slackware partition onto the cf.
One could probably ghost a windows disk to cf as well...
