please help me with pen under linux

If anyone out there has any prior experience or knowledge of how to get the pen to work under Linux I'd greatly appreciate it. I feel that I'm so close and I'm not sure exactly what's holding me back. Trying the setserial commands in the new order suggested a while ago still did not patch things up. My problem is, when I set the port to 0xfce8, I get an input/output error. When I set it back to 0x02e8, the default setting for ttyS3, IRQ 3, it doesn't respond when I try to do a 'cat'. I tried setting it to IRQ 15 but no go either. I don't know how to go about fixing this so if anyone, please, post anything at all which you think would be of help, I'm thanking everyone in advance.

PLEASE HELP ME I'M GOING INSANE!

this works for me ... remember when you 'cat /dev/ttyS3' it may take quite a bit of pen motion before something shows up on the screen due to buffering:
============================
fuji1200:~# cat penSetup.sh
setserial /dev/ttyS3 irq 15 port 0xfce8
setserial /dev/ttyS3 autoconfig
setserial /dev/ttyS3 irq 15 baud_base 115200
fuji1200:~#
============================
It's probably redundant, but who cares?

Your reply is brief to the point of being unhelpful. I assume you mean to say "I tried entering the 3 'setserial' commands _exactly_ as given, and then I did a 'cat /dev/ttyS3'. It gave an I/O error". If this is not the case please say so.

Otherwise it would be helpful to know the configuration of your 1200 ... do you have any PCMCIA cards inserted, what are the BIOS setting for COM1,2?
