What are you doing with linux and the Juicebox?
wonder what all folks are using their JB for

Hello all,

I interested in seeing what all folks have tweaked their juiceboxes to do under linux. Based on reading the old posts, I've seen lots of comments of people playing, but very little specifics.

How bout posting what you are playing with? (or plan to play with)

In the archives:

- a micro version of mplayer (I think I remember reading)
- General linux learnings
- Attach it to a WRT54G

I'm interested in using it as a display/control box for devices which are controlled/access via serial port. This implies some GUI toolkit, etc. (Megasquirt fuel injection project is one use I see, but I have others in mind)

Thanks,

Alan

My WRT45G Project is still in the place i left after soldering the mmc mod you can see in the pages.
Maybe i'll solder the serial port today. As for JTag, it will take longer since i haven't found yet what kind i should use, what are the schemmatics or even the componnents it self.
As soon i find JTag, i'll need help on using it, but it will take a bit long.

has all the information you need including schematics for building your own dongle and lists of places that sell known good devices.

Thank's prpplague, i already had those locations. my problem is finding the components in portugal and buying a ready made one... is simply too expensive...
BTW for the serial port, where is vcc? i found tx and rx, but i'm missing vcc. could ground be the fat black cable near a resistor in the back of PCB, on the white connectors side?

im hopeing to make the juice box into a screen for my computer that displays specific information such as cpu usage, album art, etc.. ive been looking at a couple of site if anyone else is interested in the same thing check them out. http://lcdsmartie.sourceforge.net/ and http://www.skippari.net/lcd/index.html . in my wildest dream i hope to have it work with sideshow in vista http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS3641622443.html , but im pretty slow ive just now completed my picture frame project(dont laugh!) it only took 3 weeks. im realy confused about this jtag stuff as i believe most people are, but thats what make this so fun and "edutaining". anyone else with advice or prior work in trying to hook it up to a computer as a informative screen?

Anyone playing with nanoGTK? I'm curious if it's reasonable to expect it to run on a 2mb JB. I could certainly see it working on an 8mb. (Has anyone found a source for the 8mb ram? I followed the mfg link, but it did not have much)

The nanoGTK widgets look useful. I'd like to see a GP serial controler/display for various projects. With NanoGTK, it would be easy to have button/menu driven options. Meters & scrolling status displays, etc.

Have fun,

Alan

Has anyone found a source for the 8mb ram?
Looked into this a while ago, the 2mb JB must use a different PCB than the 8mb; couldn't find an 8mb part that has a compatible footprint (too many pins)-;
If you are looking to modify a JB with more RAM it may be possible to piggyback a second part for a total of 4mb - not sure on the details of how to make this work though.

I plan on putting an av/out cable integrated on mine so i can play pics and videos on
a tv if I wanted to. I also think that modding the Juicebox to output computer data such as cpu and RAM
maybe even a menu to scroll through processes on the juicebox would be cool if we could have it not crash all
the time for those who run windows. JK :)
