Updating the Wiki with lesser hacks?

A bunch of the information on "lesser hacks" for the JB is here in the BBS in a rather scattered fashion, but not easily findable on the wiki. I was thinking of adding to the wiki "hacks" section with topics like:
Using JB as an MP3 player
Using JB as a picture viewer
Why you can't play your own videos on a JB
With info and pointers back here, but it occured to me that this might be in conflict with the stated purpose of the wiki; "using the JB as a general purpose ARM/uClinux platform for hacking." What do you (especially prpplague) think?

I think it's a great idea! there is always so much general info that ppl ask which should by rights be in the wiki e.g. the stats about the dc power plug size/rating.

yes it may be against the intended purpose of the wiki, but really a wiki is meant to amass as much information as possible so why not use it as such -- to collect in one place all the questions any person off the street may have. in fact it is even not contrary to the purpose of this particular wiki as any bit of information however small will in the end help all of those/us wanting to hack on the JB.

I personally don't have any objection to that - and think it would be a great idea.

I do think it's important that you specifically call out in the section that it is refering to hacking the JB as-is - i.e. without running a customer kernel on it.

This isn't because I think any "less" of this stuff - but really just to help deliniate which kind of stuff your talking about.

(For example - reading this original topic, I saw:

Why you can't play your own videos on a JB

...and said to myself - "Sure you can - people have loaded players on it!"

So when you say "Lesser Hacks" - you might want to clarify it further. Again, not trying to segregate - just to help people identify what they are or are not looking for.

I totaly agree.
My interest in JuiceBox isn't not to create a commertial display solution for a router!
As far as i've gonne, it's not even reverse engineering!
I voided the waranty, yes, but i won't be looking to use it if somehow i break my JB!
Someone might use this information for industrial espionage, but if any one wanted, it would already been done, since the ARM plataform is very well known and uClinux is open source!
I've learn from my project, somethings about electronics, somethings about serial communications and lot's of things about serial port voltages! ;)
I say, putt'em on Wiki! It won't hARM anybody!

I think a general FAQ is a good idea and would probably meet with the spirit of the Wiki.

The mission statement from the front page, which reads in part, "...project[s] dealing with embedded linux or some aspect of embedded technology..." can have a broad interpretation. For myself; I felt that the "xD socket hack" fit in with the Wiki but my "picture frame" hacks were better relegated to Flickr.
I have a few other JB "lesser hacks" that aren't specifically Linux related and don't fall into the slide show category either that may be of interest to others - where to put them? Other people are working on multi-JB picture frames - on the surface not Linux related but if it is implemented as a true multiprocessor system (something I would be very interested in) it sounds a bit more relevant. I'm sure other people are doing things that no one else has thought of.
So maybe the question is - what are the limitations (if any) for posting to the "linux-hacker" wiki?

AFAIK Tim Riker (domain owner) is providing the wiki out of the goodness of his heart; there are no ads (something I would not oppose) to help pay the hosting. So we should try to fill it only with relevant information.

Well, I'm afraid the the actual discontinuation of the JuiceBox has moved a number of "projects" from the trivial to the "lesser hack" stage. Now that you can't buy (AFAIK) an MP3/Picture kit, the info on the picture format needed and how to make them, or even the data on MP3s (128kbps, right) should be collected in a nice convenient place (IMO, of course.) In particular, someone noticed I was working with juiceboxes and started asking questions about the picture frame hacks; calling the existing flicker/make info 'skimpy.' Physical details of how to hack a picture frame don't need to be on the wiki, but it would be nice to have the info on file formats and conversions there...

as a founding member of elinux.org, i have no objections to anyone registering and posting information as it relates to a device running linux/uclinux or hardware/software information that can assist in running linux/uclinux on a device. please feel free to register and post your hacks/projects.

I've added the "lesser hack" info to the wiki
http://www.elinux.org/wiki/JuiceBox
So far, it's got info on Playing Music, Playing Pictures,
and a section covering why some FAQs (user video player, serial terminal
and video monitor) are hard.
