JuiceWare doesn't recognize SD card?!

Hello all.

No hacking here really. I am just having the annoying problem of the JuiceBox MP3/Photo software not recognizing a connected SD card. I have reformatted the card, inserted it into the juicebox and powered and ran the unit for a few minutes. When I put the SD card in the reader (or a 3rd party reader) the software still won't recognize it.

Any suggestions???

Also, when I put the SD card in the juicebox for "juicebox compatible formatting", the generic juicebox video plays. Is it supposed to give me some sort of confirmation of formatting?

Thanks for any help.

Is the SD card MMC compatible? -- The JB only speaks MMC, probably not the issue as most (all?) SD cards should support MMC mode.
Is it 3V compatible? -- Have heard some newer SD cards are low (1.8V?) only. The JB is 3.3V only.
What size is the SD card? -- From the manual it is implied that 512M is the max that the JB can use (anyone know for sure?);

Q: How much memory does it have?
A: The MP3 Kit comes with 32MB and will take most MMC or SD cards up to and including 512 MB (sold separately and subject to availability).

It is the 32mb card that came with the kit.

I am beginning to wonder if the adapter for the JB is malfunctioning and not formatting the card. Is there a place to buy just the sd adapter that comes in the kit?

Thanks

Ok, so it was working and then stopped? Does the memory test see the card?
Hold "<<" and "play" as you power up. Then choose "MEM TEST" from the list. The MMC/SD test will do one of three things;
  • Print "card not found"
  • List information about the card (Size, format, etc.)
  • Say that there was an error reading the card.
    If the card is not formatted properly (FAT16) you will get the "error reading" message. If you get the "not found" message then probably the adapter or the JB is bad, check for damage to the connectors.

    Yes, you can buy the adapter directly from Mattel, look for the topic "order juicebox mmc adapter directly from Mattel" in the I-Appliance BBS message list (currently 7 or 8 messages below this one). They have the adapter, card reader, and 32M SD cards available.

    If there is a K-Mart or Sears near your location you may want to check the clearance rack in the toy department. I was in a "Sears Essentials", formerly a K-mart store, two weeks ago that had MP3 kits ($10), Juiceware carts ($6-$8), and even one Juicebox in a rather worn package (still marked $59.95).
    As others have pointed out - KB Toys (JB, MP3 kit, 3 carts, etc. all in a box for $15) and Toys-R-Us are also worth checking.

    If all else fails there is always ebay.

    Hope this helps.
