So - the question now is - SmartMedia readers out there on the PC which can "raw" write all blocks? i.e. Program xD boot blocks on a PC....

Alas, this turns out not to be a very easily modifiable adaptor. The
soldered pins are somewhat underneath the housing, and appear to be
covered by several layers of "stuff" (all but that last layer are
relatively easy to remove, but that last later is obnoxious.) I had
hoped to do a JB edge-connector to smart-media adaptor, using short
wires through the vias that are already there, but this appears to
be pretty hopeless from a routing perspective. Sigh.
