Detailed Specs? 802.11 interface?
Where can I find some detailed specs and what are the possiblitlities for a wireless network interface?

Can anybody point me to some detailed specs for the IA-1? The links to what might be detailed specs at compaq are broken. I'm particularly interested in the port on the right side of the box -- is this the compact flash port?

I'm also interested in this box as a wireless X-term. I'd like to flash it with Jailbait and then attach an 802.11 adapter. The jailbait images don't seem to have any wireless adapter modules in them, so obviously, that would take some mucking with. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there are any working linux drivers for USB based 802.11 adapters. Does it seem reasonable to use a compact flash network adapter? I imagine you could use a flash card to update the internal sandisk storage and then once the system was booting, replace it with a compact flash 802.11 adapter. Then boot off the internal storage and use the wireless card. Seems to me like it would work, but I don't actually have a box yet. :) Comments?

I was thinking much the same route. However, I was going to attempt to add PCMCIA support to the linux image and just use the PCMCIA wireless setup. That always works nice for me normally. Perhaps my assumption is wrong that the PCMCIA slot is a normal one and will be easy to make work. Oh well, sounds like fun anyway.

The port on the side is for a Compact Flash memory card.
Wireless networking for the IA-1 that has to be tethered to a 120 VAC outlet doesn't make much sense economically (unless you already have the wireless access point). You could probably find a USB - 802.11b interface rather than trying to find a CF - 802.11b

Wireless networking isn't completely insane, since (at least in my house) 120V AC outlets are slightly more plentifiul than network ports. I'm focusing on a CF solution for the IA since (AFAIK) there are no working drivers for 802.11 USB dongles for linux yet. I'm assuming (which may be a problem) that the CF 802.11 cards use the same chipset as the pcmcia 802.11 cards. Given my 'drutheres, I'd probably go with the USB, but in an effort to make it work now, I think the CF 802.11 looks more promising.

Unfortunately for me, I researched a bit too long and TigerDirect seems to be all out of IA's. :( So the whole question may be moot.

check your local Wal-Mart electronics department, where they were $149 a few weeks ago. my local store had two, which both disappeared quickly. Compaq's online store has refurbs available for about the same price, if I recall correctly...
