the $450 1.7 GHz home-built system takes up a lot more physical space, has a wired keyboard and mouse, and just does not have the visual appeal of a small LCD device. the CF card reader/adapter and 32 meg CF cards aren't terribly expensive, and if you've already hacked an Audrey system, you probably already have them available. hacking involves all of these things: some hardware, some software, some ingenuity, and the overwhelming desire to do something the original equipment manufacturer never intended. when you get an $89 Audrey or a $99 IA-1 that can be used as an X-terminal or VNC monitor, you get quite a bargain, IMHO | |
