Garbled Phone numbers?
Has anyone's IA lost the initial MSN phone numbers

My IA is trying to dial in to msn to update itself, but the phone numbers that it has are ascii crap, and not numbers.

I can confirm this by doing the ^U^U^U trick, and I can see the ascii-art that's supposed to be access numbers.

Does anyone have those numbers? I'd like to let this thing patch itself to MSN2 and see what it's like before I start hacking it for linux.

Thanks.

Try these numbers.

888-528-8726
888-413-4389
866-263-0864

They dial into uu.net. Another option is to use your isp's information. Enter your isp's phone number, your username and password for your isp's validation, and then remember to take off the 's' from 'https://....' and it will download the latest image.

You will still need an MSN account to use an MSN Companion 'as is'. I don't think anyone has found a way around that *yet*.

I took my stock IA-1, turned it on, did a Ctrl-U three times to get to the dialing screen. Entered the first 888 phone number and within a hour it had upgraded the 1.0 software to the 2.0 software. I have not signed up for an MSN account yet. I have some things I want to try with the unit, but it was nice to verify that if I do *royally* screw things up, I can recover. Of cource, only if this dialing screen is preserved!

I tried them; no dice.

Thanks, though.

Perhaps I should just try and get an image to flash it to 2.0.

Can anyone find out what the REAL numbers should be? I looked all over MSN; no dice.

Hmmm... Dunno why those numbers do not work. How about using a different ISP? If you use those uu.net numbers then you will need a uu.net account and password. The Microsoft ones in the dialing screen are oobeosr1@reg.msn.com and msnc@sign.msn.com. I am doing these from memory..... Oh, I don't know the passwords, unless they *really* are '********' and '***************' !! :)

While I was upgrading the stock IA-1 from 1.0 to 2.0, the line kept dropping. Dropped a total of 4 times, but each time I redialed it recovered the download where it left off. That was cool. Otherwise, it just would have been one very frustrating hour.....

I did take a quick look at those headers you sent. They did not match the image files that are downloaded from these 'rescue' links. I suspect that the image files are compressed/encoded. I really have not had time to dig very far into the image files. Darn kids keep wanting to play car/trucks and blocks and barbies and all sorts of board games. :)
