I don't have a 95/98 install from which to set the bootable flag on the CF card (Using Zio USB reader). Has anyone found any software that will allow you to do this from within Win2k?

RE:How to set CF card bootable from Win2k? (modified 0 times)
I had this same problem because I'm running WindowsXP Pro on my desktop. My solution was to install VMWare 3.0 which supports USB and boot Win98SE in VMWare. Then I could intall the USB CF reader in VMWare on Win98.
Check out http://www.vmware.com. They have a demo download that you can grab that should work nicely.
The great thing about standards is there's so many to choose from.

I could have sworn I saw something about using dskprobe under win2k in the Disk IO Error thread. Supposedly it is part of "Win2000 Support Tools". It would be great if I didn't have to install vmware/win98 just to get a bootable image. Thanks to everyone on this board, this is going to rock once I get it working.

I noticed today that sticking a blank CF card into my Kodak DC265 Digital camera created a perfectly formatted and bootable partition on it. I didn't need to do anything else to it. So if you happen to have a Kodak digital camera lying around... ;)

I haven't found anything else out yet, but I know someone at work that loves everything M$, I will ask him about the program tomorrow and maybe even bring in my zio. I just wanted to make sure, you guys get this install onto floppy prompt when you run part.exe right? I booted off the floppy and then couldn't see the card, which was kinda expected. I will try to write more tomorrow.

I got delayed today cuz I replaced the heat sink with a fan/heatsink. I found dskprobe. It is in the w2k install disk under support\tools. run the setup.exe. It seems to allow you to set the disk to bootable and the partition type. The problem was that there is no sys program for win2k. I copied that from a bootable dos disk, but when I booted the IA-1 it said that it couldn't find the system files. I didn't see DRVSPACE.BIN on my dos disk but I don't think I need it. I will give it another try tomorrow. The fan worked well but I have lost all my sodering talent :)
