The above knowledge base article describes a clean reboot for the machine... Why couldn't this mechanism be used to (by modifying the web address/post data) to point to someone's jailbait image. Would the machine actually upgrade itself this way?

I just got mine so I don't know much yet. Basically I'm waiting for the 2.0 upgrade to complete and I'm waiting for my USB Adapter (unfortunately its the one that TigerDirect said was compatibilty but wasnt: Dlink).. Arggh!

Anyway, I'm going to sign up for the 6 months free and see what happens. And while I like Linux (FreeBSD is what I am actually using) I don't like Netscape's performance, etc... I will possibly try other MS OS's on a CF card (need to get a microdrive now). Will it work with a 1GB microdrive?

Let me know if you think the Auto Upgrade idea would actually work...

the auto upgrade doesn't work, at least in the form you're suggesting.

i've been trying to figure out what format the clientman file is in, then work from that to build an alternate image... but no luck. it appears that the clientman file is an amalgam of files appended to each other. in linux, running the "file" command determines that the file is a PCX image...

the file is obviously in a special format, it also appears that there is *no* error checking (MD5 checksums, etc) so that makes the construction of a modified image just a tad easier... if only the file format can be determined!
