Unit appears to be hosed after BIOS cleared
After the BIOS was cleared the unit appears to be ruined

After following the instructions in the thread "Easier way to clear the BIOS", I reconnected the power cord and the unit did not boot-up for display the setup screen. It displayed a 2mm horizontal line across the center of the screen. It appears there is also a fuzzy number 10 both above and below the horizontal line on the right side. The keyboard does nothing more than reset the unit after holding down the power button for 4 seconds. Resetting the unit brings back the horizonal line. Has anybody else seen this or have any idea what to do?

be careful when re-assembling the unit! you can 'pinch' several connectors that need to be pushed back under after separating the case and before reassembly... the connectors wrap around and under from the LCD screen and out of the way... you can hurt the connectors if you tighten the screws holding the hinge cover on...

i ran across this problem when i couldn't screw in a hinge cover screw closest to the bios jumper...

Were you able to get your unit working again after pinching the connectors? I checked my connectors and they look OK.

Quoth chryptic:

"I actualy opened the whole thing. I set the jumper on pins 2 and 3 then forgot to set them back. All I got was a line across the middle of the screen. It worked fine again after resetting the jumper. Did you remember to unground the pin?"

The jumper's in the correct position and none of the pins are grounded. Everything looks good internally, but still there is the line across the screen. I might have to send the thing back to Tiger Direct. I'd like to have the unit repaired, or get a replacement, but they seem to be in very short supply now.

Are you sure the LCD connectors are sitting properly in their slots? That would most likely cause similar problems.

I have a different, but similar question...

I reconnected the power while the pin was still grounded, and immediatly smelled that familiar smell.... :) After rmoving the offending paperclip, I rebooted, and as far as i can tell, everything still works! Any ideas what, if anything, might have been destroyed by this?

Ahhhh. Nothing like the aroma of toasted circutry first thing in the morning.....
