Long time listener first time caller.
Ok some of this info is scattered around through the list so I thought I would add a new one and compile it together.

Some posts say unplug for 10 seconds and wait I just rebooted with the power switch.
When the red Compaq logo appears hold down Ctrl and tap U three times but not to fast it gives you time.
Again your mileage may vary but this is what worked for me. Luckily I had a friend who had an MSN account
I really don't think this made a difference judging from the previous posts with people using other
ISPs. Fill out the screen works just like a BIOS tab through the fields. The 2 main things you need to do is remove the 'S' from
the https:// url in the bottom and add WEBC/ to the front of your username. Also just so you don't botch the download
be sure and add *70, to the front of the dialup number.

Thanks to ranman and mrbug not sure if they are the originators but thats the messages I got the info from. I've tried every combo of CTRL-U that I can think of: baked, broiled, fried, breaded, etc.

Tried turning off, unplugging, holding down, hitting a different intervals, hitting it once, hitting it 3 times (per earlier thread), holding it when I turn it on, hitting it really fast, eating sandwich while hitting it, using my feet, etc.....

But I swear for some reason my Ipaq stopped responding to the command. After a botched 2.0 update I'm left at the NIX1.BIN, NIX0.BIN errors screen.....

I dunno what else to try....

I've already hosed my CF slot I believe so I can't read it and try to copy the image over. I only see A: and C: in my boot order so was going to try the MSN 2.0, log in as guest, Broadband (potentially) solution...

Sign me,

CTRL-U'd out in Cincinnati

Is it time to call tech support?

This might also be useful as a last resort:

Ok did you try it with Chicken Blood and a Goat sacrifice?

Ok I tried this again and I started the CTRL-U sequence after the left hand cursor started blinking.
I held down CTRL and hit U 3 times. Not very fast either try counting 2 seconds between each key press (one one thousand, two one thousand, etc.) Holding it down just seems to give a keyboard error. Really fast and it doesn't register.

The first time I got in I messed up on the username and password and had to cancel the update thats when I got those same errors that you are getting now. But I went back in a second time and entered the correct info and it seems to start the update process over again so you can recover from that error message that you are getting.

Same experience as Shane.

I had to enter the password several times on this strange keyboard before I got it right. After the cursor drops, I pressed Ctrl-U just once. Worked every time.

I have the IA-1 in a corner of my cubicle, making the keyboard angle awkward (probably part of my password problem). Make sure you have a good line of sight with a reasonably level keyboard if you have an awkward angle. There's no visual feedback on that keystroke.
