Interesting Images?
Looking for interesting 16M IA-1 images

First, I managed to completely destroy my MSN Companion image. Thought I had a backup and was trying to do some ill-advised binary editing on the image file itself. Not sure of the legalities of getting a copy of someone else's image, but since I bought an IA-1 I figure I am legally allowed a copy of MSN Companion. So if someone out there has one, preferably V2, I'd appreciate a copy.

I am also very interested in other 16-128M images that people have whatever the OS. I'd like to update my IA-1 page to include info about other operating systems and other ways of running an IA-1.

Feel free to e-mail me (rasmus@php.net) or catch me on IM (user id rlerdorf).

I am planning on working to get a *nix firewall using 2 usb nics with my ipaq. I'd definitely would be interested in posting my image once I am done. But first thing's first gonna test out the jailbait image to see what else I need. oh, and to back up the original flash image, do I just need to boot off the cf device and do

dd if=/dev/hda of=backupfilename.img

rasmus - you can get a default internal image for the original OS (you know the one i mean) at the same location as the flying buttmonkey images...

cityhunter: I have just been using a DOS boot CF and dolly to copy the internal image off. But yes, you should be able to dd it as well from a linux cf. I prefer the DOS CF because it comes up so quickly.

bball: Thanks, will go find it there. And save it in 2 places this time! ;)

I have heard a plea for v2.0 to be backed up as an image and made available to others. The problem with that request would be that there would be personal information along with it. On the other hand, if someone could capture the upgrade files and make those available that might be helpful.

Off the top of my head, I don't have a clue about how one would go about capturing that(those) file(s). Any ideas?

actually, you can get a clean copy of the MSN 2.0 software, by using the Technical Support screen at startup, and using the ERASE keyword. this wipes out all of your personal information. then, it's possible to use Dolly.exe to copy the 'cleaned' image from the internal 16 meg SanDisk.

curious:

i do -- but it's 16 megabytes, and not generally transferable using e-mail. most e-mail servers limit users up to one to five megabytes for a single message. (posting it to a web page or FTP site for downloads is generally frowned upon by Micro$loth.) if you have broadband (cable, dsl) and ICQ 2001b software, you can grab the file from my ICQ "Shared Files" area.
