How many times can I write to CF/SanDisk

What is the write-life of the internal SanDisk and a CompactFlash card? Which would it be safer to put a read-write filesystem on?

most flash ram devices claim a minimum write cycle life of about 100,000 writes. SanDisk claims a higher capacity, about 300,000 write cycles.

Well, I wish I could verify 300,000 write cycles, but I can't find that info. What I can find is MTBF of >1,000,000 hours [http://www.sandisk.com/oem/cf-spec.htm]. Also, as a comparison the IBM specs are at [http://www.storage.ibm.com/hdd/micro/datasheet.pdf]. There is no MTBF number though :(

BTW, you bring up a very good point. If we are using flash drives as hard drives then they are bound to die quickly. I am thinking IBM's microdrives might be a bit more robust.

Remember to specifiy 'noatime' on your mount points so that
the meaningless timedate stamp updates for each ionode accessed
doesn't happen. Really cuts down on non-update i-o, so should
extend the life of the flash modules.
