BeIA on IA-1?
How do we do this?

I got one of the $99 IA-1's from TD, and I'm pretty impressed with the potential I've seen (Thanks to the fellas who posted the info on how to make the D-Link DSB-650TX adaptor work, btw). I bought this unit as a gift for my mom, who's slightly techno-phobic, to say the least. I don't think I'll be able to sell her on Jailbait, insofar as her computer experience consists of hearing me talk about them. However, I've corresponded briefly with Be (right before their site was taken down), and they tell me that the AI-1 was the original platform that their BeIA software was designed for. Does anyone know the story on this? If I could load BeIA onto this unit, I'm hoping that it would be easy enough to use for a novice, and still let me escape the Borg. Thoughts?

Do you have the BeIA operating system? I was also interested in doing this. Its really sad to see Be close their doors.

I'm afraid I don't. I emailed Be right after I bought the AI unit to ask, and they said that the only machines Compaq shipped that were using the BeAI software were sold in Asia. I *guess* that if we were to hunt around, we might be able to find someone who had purchased this machine, and could have an image they could perhaps... "loan" (I mean, if Be isn't selling it anymore, is it particularly legal or not?) out, and then we could just use dolly to flash it onto our AI-1s. The only trick is finding someone who not only is using one of the BeAI devices, but knows how to do all the hacking steps needed to get his or her image onto a cf card.
