Power Managment w/ JailBait

I did some research on usenet, it seems like a lot of people using compaq laptops are also having
trouble with shutdown/restart, and also their power button dont workİİ

one person said he got it working with the following apm options set in the İconfig:

CONFIG_APM=y
CONFIG_APM_IGNORE_USER_SUSPEND=y
CONFIG_APM_DO_ENABLE=y
CONFIG_APM_CPU_IDLE=y
CONFIG_APM_DISPLAY_BLANK=y
# CONFIG_APM_RTC_IS_GMT is not set
CONFIG_APM_ALLOW_INTS=y
# CONFIG_APM_REAL_MODE_POWER_OFF is not set

unfourtantly i cant verify this, since i can compile the kernel hereİ

I think we are all getting tired of pulling the plug out to shutdown, and it would be much smoother to fix thisİİİ if anyone has this working allready, please let us knowİ

I have a compaq presario 800 series. (the really thin laptops)
though technically the hw was made by a 3rd party, the bios I believe is theres.
I had some prob with getting apm to work, but here is the config for what works
CONFIG_APM=m
# CONFIG_APM_IGNORE_USER_SUSPEND is not set
# CONFIG_APM_DO_ENABLE is not set
# CONFIG_APM_CPU_IDLE is not set
# CONFIG_APM_DISPLAY_BLANK is not set
# CONFIG_APM_RTC_IS_GMT is not set
# CONFIG_APM_ALLOW_INTS is not set
CONFIG_APM_REAL_MODE_POWER_OFF=y

I'll try both next time I build a new kernel.

Unfortunately I have been doing my own kernels and I haven't
found an APM bios (oh well, Compaq cutting costs). ACPI does work sort-of.

Just make sure you have linux in flash before you play much with ACPI, I
managed to flush the cmos and had to re-clear the bios jumper (grrr).
