Hiyas HW hackers,
For all who care of are interested in this info, since i didn't find it on the BBS here or anywere else for that matter here it is:
I've recently purchased a Compaq IA1(eBay) and started to follow the recommended BIOS reset procedure.
During that i found some interesting info on the mainbord for replacing the CPU and match the clock settings.
On the Compaq decal is says :
Series number CE1000
Model number of the unit is 1456VQLIN-3
On a Decal next to the Compaq one :
model number 178358-001
Serial number 1V08FB73J6ZK
My IA mainbord numbers are :
PCB 41-060600
PWA 40-060600
Most lightly build in June 2000
This info is taken from the mainbord print so is as it is.
FSB settings on the normal side of the PCB close to the right rear of the appliance:
FSB RJ1 RJ2 RJ3 CPU PCI
1 1 1 1 60 30
1 1 1 0 66.8 33.4
1 1 0 1 70 35
1 1 0 0 75 25
1 0 1 1 80 26.7
1 0 1 0 83.3 27.7
1 0 0 1 95.25 31.75
1 0 0 0 100 33.3
Multiplier settings found close to the compactdisk port next to the Xtal and clock chip W156H :
R502 R500 R501 clock
1 0 ? 2.5
1 0 ? 3.0
1 1 ? 3.5
0 1 ? 4.0
0 0 ? 4.5
0 0 ? 5.0
0 1 ? 5.5
1 1 ? 6.0
Then next to the power connector bottom pcb, the CPU voltage settings
R509, R504, R505, R507, R508, for voltages of 1.7-1.8-1.9-2.0-2.1-2.2
I didn't note the settings though if i reopen it to t(f)ry some chips i'll get them and publish it.
So it should be possable to upgrade the CPU up to AMD K6 3d now 600(100)MHz in my IA1 box.
It will rquire some soldering work for the real HW hackers no problem but one could also attach jumpers or dipswitsches so you can change the settings for the CPU quick and easy.
With kind regards and respect,
Zathros
