Dual Boot using CF images?

I've read through the boards, but I have a question I don't think has been answered, or at least hasn't been answered in a way that a simpleton like myself can figure it out.

Is it possible to flash the Jailbait image to a compact flash while leaving the original MSN stuff completely untouched? I have a desire to keep the unit as is (for my wife), but I want to have the option to try out the Jailbait stuff as well.

Thanks.

my MSNC has a "locked" bios so I have not had a unit to really play with.

But this is what I would try:

configure the bios for the following boot order:

CF, internal disk...

if there is no CF present, it then should boot off the internal disk... and with luck, msn will not try to reset the bios.

you can use the external flying buttmonkey image to boot to a Linux session and leave the internal, original CE image untouched... however, Rasmus has done a a great job of updating the internel image version... it would be entirely possible to create a bootable 16MB CF with the original image, and then add the updated software (for support of sound, etc.)... you could also 'extend' the external filesystem by using an NFS mount point... (the only real diff between the internal/external images is in the LILO config file, AFAIK)... however, i find using Linx from the internal CF much more convenient (and will *never* use M$ software on the IA-1)... so i wiped it and didn't even save a copy... no great loss at all...

i've got to agree with bball -- unless you can't live without the M$N software, it's really no great loss. WinCE isn't nearly as bloated as other MickeySquish Windoze variants, and can do a lot more than the very limited MSN Companion software allows, but WinCE isn't even exposed/available to the M$N Companion user.

right now, Rasmus' gen of Jailbait Linux is definitely the most flexible, capable, and up-to-date IA-1 option, including a true X GUI and (soon) a choice of browsers. plus, if you want to backup the M$N Companion software, you can do this, using a DOS compact flash card, and the 'dolly' utility program.

just my two cents worth...

I am running the jailbait image-2 on an external cf, you have to mess with lilo some but it's possible.
