What nic works with rasmus' v6 image w/out tweaking

I'm looking to purchase a usb nic for my companion. I have reset the bios and am ready to flash Rasmus' v6 linux image on there. What nic (pref the cheapest one) works straight "out of the box" with his image without having to add drivers or re-compile the kernel?

Any help would be great! Everyone on this bbs is very helpfull and I find that awesome!

naegelin,
I have the D-Link DSB-650TX, it works great with Rasmus's image (Thanks, Rasmus!). Got this adapter from tiger, ordered it with my IA-1. You want to answer 'n' to the 'Do you have a kawasaki-based USB ethernet adapter? question during setup; the install defaults to the pegasus driver.

I've had good success with the Linksys USB100TX Version 3.0.

Has anyone used the Compact Flash slot for the NIC?

USB is a very slow interface. Having a 10/100USB nic is a bust - your USB Bus cant handle 10MB let alone 100.

This is why Im leaning toward CF for the NIC. Does Rasmus' image work w/ a CF NIC?

A LOT of people here, myself included use the Linksys card. As for a CF adapter, did you google to see if there are drivers for the particular card you want to use? That would probably yield some fruitful results.

I'm using a 3com 3c460b...works great with rasmus' image, and cost me a whopping $15 from TigerDirect.

This sounds great. The rasmus image seems like it should work in my AI-1. Where can I get the v6 image?

I am using a NetGear EA101 USB NIC with no problems. Using Rasmus' linux-3.img. When running install.sh, just answer "yes" when asked if you are using a Kawasaki USB ethernet adaptor, or add "kaweth" to /etc/modules.

GeoDude: Did your 3C460B work 'out of the box' with ramsus' v3 image?

Yes, the 3C460B worked just fine out of the box.

Make sure you answer 'n' to the Kawasaki-based question when configuring. The 3C460B is a pegasus-type, not kawasaki.

Ok, here's my hard-earned experience with usb ethernet adapters with the ia1:

I first bought the linksys usb100m. It is very compact and looked promising. But it did *not* work. I even tried the latest redhat 7.2 with my laptop. From my research, I believe it has something new and is not a standard chipset.

Next, I tried a Netgear ea-101c. It was $19 refurbished, but it worked poorly. It would go offline after a while with lots of console messages. A little research on http://www.linux-usb.org showed that it could just be crappy hardware.

Then I finally followed a link on the slashdot discussion and found this tiny gem:

http://www.us.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10283086&loc=14577
It's a compex eu202 usb ethernet adapter.

There was no indication that it would work, but I took a chance and ordered one for $16. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it uses the pegasus II chipset and works just fine.

Hope this helps

I purchased the Compex UE202-A for $20 and mailed in for a $5 rebate. I purchased the IA-1 and the Ethernet adapter at the same time and was worried if it would work. When I received it, I popped it open and saw the Pegasus II chip and was relieved. It was "plug and play" with the rasmus image. Have had no problems with it so far.
