One of the members here is supposed to be sending me an UNHACKABLE Unit. This may take a week or so, and I may not be able to start work on it right away.
Has anyone tried cutting off the "Bad" bios chip and soldering on a "good" bios chip?
Is the "good & hackable" bios image posted someplace? I'm sure it is, but I don't have loads of time to hunt it down.
If this hasn't been tried I'm willing to make up 20 or so chips and distribute them to folks that are comptetent at surface mount soldering. This looks to be pretty simple with basic tools. Cut off the old chip using nippers so you don't screw up the traces, remove the mess with solderwick, then solder a new chip in place (simple fo me to say- not simple if you haven't done it!).
Cost during the R&D stage would be $10/chip for a limited number of chips (includes shipping). E-Mail me if you are game. jack@badflash.com & I'll give you instructions.
