I haven't heard any news about them, nor have I seen them on tiger. I have been checking regularly. Lonny was true to his word when he mentioned about the returned audrey's going on sale - I picked up 3 of them. They are being shipped now. I am curious to see what is wrong with them.

I hope the emachines and IA-1 become available, then people will start hacking them and putting them to a good use.

Okay guys, I'm sorry..... I haven't been very attentive lately, have I.

So which do you want first? Bad or good news?

Okay, the bad news. The eMachines MSN looks like a dead deal. Seems there may be some legal issues. The comment I got from someone at MSN was "eMachines didn't invest in the platform." Whatever that means.

I know that the one I have I never was able to get the update to MSN 2.0. Also, a couple times after being on for awhile the video freaked out on the unit. So, it is now just sitting next to my Gateway Connected Music Player across the room from Audrey while my IA-1 sits in the closet and my GCT in the kitchen hasn't gotten turned on in a long time. By the looks of this keyboard in my home office, I spend too much time at this computer. I'm still trying to see if we can get some for you guys, even if there is a limited quantity. I'd like to get like 100 of them and sell them without a marketing splash in the shadows for you guys.

Did I mention the IA-1? Oh, yeah! Well, they are IN THE WAREHOUSE AND READY TO SHIP. We had a little network problem this week which has us backed up on getting newly available skus up for sale, but........ if you want an IA-1 for $99.99 (it is a recert and is supposed to come with 6 months of MSN dial up and the one I got looks new):

Go to the TigerDirect.com site, and in the "Express Lane" box on the top masthead, enter the sku "C860-A783" and it will add it to your shopping cart. If you click on the item link in your shopping cart it will NOT show you the product details as they have not been made live. They can also be ordered by phone at 1-800-879-1597 - just ask for the sku C860-A783.

Updates on other new devices... if you get the catalog you should have seen a SonicBlue product that is a CE tablet for $2000. If they don't sell plan on there being a "clearance sale" on that product. Also, yesterday a new box was delivered that is a 15" flatpanel with built-in system running CE. Didn't take it out of the box yet. Price will probably be around $599? Nothing else super exciting. I'm also trying to get some of the new ReplayTVs - cross your fingers. I'm dying to get my hands on one of them.

Enjoy!

Lonny:

That is great news! I just ordered my IA-1. $17 shipping? Ouch!

That FrontPath ProGear 1000 looks too cool! The magazine copy says its Winblows 98. Even better than CE. Can Tiger price them to be within a hacker's budget? If so, put me on the list!

Please keep us updated with the new and cool stuff showing up at Tiger.

Thanks!

Bummer - I had big plans for these. Never mind, something else may come along ...

> I know that the one I have I never was able to get the update to MSN 2.0.

I don't really see that as being a big problem

Now we're talking ! That sounds great if you can pull it off. Count on me for at least 4 or 5, providing they're still around the same price as was originally discussed.

Cheers, Skip

I will take 5 myself, ( hpviper@tconl.com ) as I have already hacked the one I have and would like to do some more. Also, Pics are up on my site ( http://www.t35.com/emsn/ ) of the inside out showing every step possible in putting it back together. I will definately be happy if you get them. Like I said, 5 please, also hinging on the fact that they are still the same price as before. Gotta love them. Also, the power supply is very hard to find (even RadioShack with it's 45 different ones including the universal didnt have one to fit it @ 15v & 2.4A) so I have some extras that will be going up on my site for sale at cost to me plus shipping and handling to you. Later, all.

This may be a silly question, but once the eMachines MSN device is booted from a zip drive or other USB device - the OS on the media can be transferred to the sandisk on the device, correct? Then the media can be removed and the device will boot to the new OS, right?

I am working on making a Windows CE Image for it, but I can not seem to find a Windows CE Development Kit anywhere around. I have all options and drivers ready, all I need now is the Dev. Kit. Once I get it, you can be sure to see one from me ASAP. Lemmie know if you can help me with my dillema. Later, all.

TaurusGuy, you can order a trial version of the CE Dev kit for Microsoft off of their site, it's free you just pay shipping, it lasts for 60 days and gives you full functionality. If you make the image before the end of the trial then your set. It would be great if we had a universal image that would work on the Emachine and the Compaq, if it's posible on the size constrants.

Have you checked out the S&H Charges? I can not tell you from the website whether or not, but if someone can tell me whether it is FULLY FUNCTIONAL, I will probably break down and order it. Later, all.

Lonnie, if you're reading this. what are the chances of going ahead with the 100-off purchase [of emachines] you mentioned ? Or, would you be able to put one of us directly in contact with whoever is holding them to maybe organise a 'group buy' ?

I apprecate the work you've done on the IA-1, but duty and shipping to the UK makes this a bit too expensive for me.

Thanks,

UPDATE! They should be available either later this week or early next. There are approx. 12,000 units which will be up for grabs.

If you want to be on the "announcement" list - just email emachine@lonnypaul.com

They should be $19.99 - original sealed units fresh from eMachines.
