Centralized IA-1 webpage?
Putting all our info together?

I use (well, lurk) this message board almost daily to find new ideas to implement (screw up) on my IA-1, and it's been a big help. But it seems that there's so much info on here now that it's kinda hard to wade through, and there's multiple pages about doing one thing (installing jailbait, mounting nfs, etc)... I was thinking about putting together a sort of encyclopedia webpage on my domain for the IA-1, and just wanted to ask if I could link information and webpages that I find on here. Of course, all credit would be given to original posters (so this would actually be sort of a community effort), as well as links to the threads and what not, it just seems like it'd be nice to get things in a bit better order.

I too find this BBS very valuable but hard to get through all of the information. I feel like I might miss something cool someone has done with the IA-1. Sounds good to me!

Yeah I agree that would be an excellent idea. Sometimes its hard to find a thread with all the info you need. I would even be willing to compile some articles from here and post them, of course getting permission from the author first and giving them proper credit.

Okie dokie, well, I've now got a directory to put the page in... It will reside at

http://www.numberporn.com/ia-1/

(No, numberporn is not porn. It's a bad math joke. I'm a nerd. Live with it. :) )

Development will be happening as I can start digging through the archives and seeing what I can put together, I'm going to section the page by OS's (Win9x, Linux, BeOS, other...) and flesh out the areas as I go... Expect a basic framework up by the end of the week, assuming school doesn't start killing me as of tomorrow.

If you'd like to help out, fire a mail off to mage@ou.edu.

Ok, moving ahead on this, I've finally got the message boards together and working on my website, so:

http://numberporn.com/phorum/list.php?f=3

is the place to talk about getting the site together. I'm gonna try to get on top of developing on it ASAP.

well... i like your message board, but it still lacks a nice homepage feel. i've got http://www.geocities.com/linux_ia1/ set up, the only feature is pictures of klunk's 9mm HD and power switch installation at http://www.geocities.com/linux_ia1/klunk/

obviously, geocities won't do for much, but it's an easy URL to work with (although i love the numberporn idea [being a coder, i'm all about math jokes]), and i figure i could slap up a sort of index. also, i threw together a simple image/description page for klunk that's _easily_ reusable for anybody that's got pics to share.

anywho, if anybody's interested, i'll pop up a sort of homepage to sub sites hosted elsewhere, links pages, etc... i'm starting the index right now, so hopefully it'll be up by noon.

(btw: klunk's pics are actually on my work's webserver cuz geocities doesn't allow files with spaces in the names and i didn't wanna rename his .jpgs)

Well, my message boards are just that, though, message boards. That's not what the actual IA-1 page is going to be. Right now I'm working on writing the article system so people can submit articles and guides and others can comment on them. I'd really like the page to be interactive so we can have guides that show step-by-step how to do something, then let people put up comments and tips on the process that might help out a bit.

All that should be done sometime this weekend, as well as a index and what not.

And yes, I'll actually use *color* on the page too. :)

sounds great... i've slapped mine up already, but it doesn't have much to it, it's going to me more of a navigation bar of sorts... and i don't really use color that much. but it's up as of just now (if you already saw it, then it wasn't up all the way)

anywho, as far as step-by-step goes, i'm pretty good with java/html/flash and director, and i'll be happy to contribute my skills if that sounds useful.

as far as my http://www.geocities.com/linux_ia1/ goes, it's up, annoying addbanner and all. my main thing is i do all my html by hand and try to keep it as small and w3c compliant as possible, as well as friendly to both netscape and msie. if u like it, two heads are better than one.

Ok, the basic layout is up, I'm thinking that's the final graphics too (minimal, but still sleek, readable, and looking nice). I've put some of my ideas for what the main link catagories should be in, but of course, a whole message board full of heads is better than one, so check out the page and see what you think... There's a few more I've thought of, but I'm off to buy my new car now (2k2 beetle, wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Wonder if I can hack linux on to it). Reply on one of the two message boards if you can think of anything. :)

Thanks,
Kyle
