"Yes the backlight turns off completely in Win98SE..and the hard disk powers down as well. Pressing the power
button turns the machine off no matter what, even if you tell it to only enter sleep mode.. it could be sleeping

Could you describe exactly what you have enabled under SYSTEM. I have ACPI enabled and Plug and Play BIOS (FAIL SAFE)enabled with a lot of "!" in front of devices. Everything seems to work as you describe EXCEPT the display powering down. After the display timeout, the desktop screen goes away and I have a blank powered screen with a blinking "_" in the upper left corner. When I wake the display, it resets (blanks out and powers down) and then comes back to the desktop.

Also, what monitor do you have selected?
