Linux Terminal Services client to connect to Windows XP or NT terminal services

I would love to see some linux images out there with this feature: rdesktop from www.rdesktop.org. It allows you to connect to any microsoft terminal server (RDP) from linux in full screen. It would be great to have the Ipaq boot linux into this as a terminal services thin client!

Anyone interested in developing this let me know.

I've modified a ramus jailbait image that included it. If your interested I can search around for it. I now use Midori, so shortly I should have a Midori image with rdesktop.

Anyone know of how I can do this? or does anyone have a Linux image that contains a terminal client for Microsoft Terminal Services that fits on the internal SAN disk?

Thanks!

I havn't tried it, but the latest of WildWes's Midori buildkits has the rdesktop executable in the /usr/bin/ directory. Not sure if that made it into his latest image. You should give that a try first.

Happy Hacking,
Julio.

Right, it's there but it's untested. If you try it, tell us if it works.

Outstanding! My kudos to wildwildwes. Rdesktop works great in this build. I just got my COMPEX USB ethernet adapter pluged it in and it worked with out any modification. I then ran rdesktop and up came my Windows login screen. I am currently using it right now to write this post.

Thanks again for all the help. I am set.

I now have a great little thin client! I can't believe how easy this was. I used the midora image, setup the basic network settings, found rdesktop and ran it and it was up in minutes. The only part that was a bit of trouble was getting the CF setup to boot.

I couldn't partition the CF on my Windows 98 laptop for some reason. I could partition it on my Windows 98 desktop using a Lexar Jumpshot USB CF adapter, but when formatted using that USB adapter it would not boot. I then formatted the CF using the PCMCIA CF adapter and it still wouldn't boot. I then ran part.exe with the USB adapter and set the partition to boot and it finally worked.

I had an odd USB network adapter that I acquired second hand for almost nothing (like the IA-1 that I have) and it worked! It is an "@home Network" adapter that probably was part of broadband Internet package or something. I think it is a Peracom 10/100 adapter if that helps anyone.

Does anyone know how to get rdesktop to let you see the task bar? I guess I can login using another machine and place the task bar on the side of the window, but I can't see it or access it at all under X Windows... Any hints?
