Hi! I noticed on the first page of this board area that people were talking about adding a hard drive to the Ipaq. I posted in there, but from the looks of it, that topic seemed to stop moving. I was wondering if anyone had the plans or schematics to connecting a hard drive to the companion? I know this can be done, but I just can't find out how.

There are already schematics available for a CF <-> IDE converter available, if you wish to build your own. If not, Advantech sells them. Klunk has already added a harddrive to his IA1 and his pictures are available at http://thinker.falcons2000.com/ia1/klunk-20020116/

I have used Klunk's method of adding a hard drive with much success. I unfortunately can't get the sound/video (I'm using a basic Trident 800x600/256 color driver now) /audio drivers to work like others on this board. I have tried both places that others have tried but when I try to run the .exe for the driver package, it says that the applicable hardware isn't installed in the machine. My power supply PCB board also looked different than Klunk's, but I just used a DMM to find the correct voltages I needed and attached my wiring there. If I can get the drivers working, this will be a truly sweet little deal. I'm glad that I changed my mind and installed a hard drive instead of using a microdrive or a CF card. I need the extra storage space that a HD affords, but your needs may be different. A microdrive of CF Card would definitely be easier! Good luck!
